it's chilly on the southern plains this morning. 45 degrees and raining with a stiff northeast wind. This has been going on since Friday night and I kicked on the furnace this morning. I know it's that time of year but I'm not ready for it to be here. I know 45 doesn't sound cool to a lot of you but it was 80 degrees Friday and dry. Fact is the only bad thing to me about fall is that winter follows and this is a wake up call..

Light rain all day yesterday, 47 degrees this morning.

It's 57 here this morning but tomorrow morning they are calling for mid 30s and then a day or two of low 30s or even upper 20s. That's about 20-25 degrees below normal for this time of year for us.

i got you beat or is it im the looser. There calling for gust to 50mph and up to two feet of snow in the next two days. Wet and heavy snow that causes a real mess and power outages everywhere. Went out and test fired the generator this morning.

   Often times oiur first snow is light, fluffy stuff..6" to 10"...but this time around it may be different.  With such wind..all bets are off.

just got done putting the side by side up on the lift and the challenger under it and broke out the tractor for just in case.

Yes, it has but not it's not great right now. I guess the northern residents are used to the nasty winter weather just like we are to the summer heat. I will take the heat every time. There is good news as it is supposed to be around 80 again by Saturday. We are going to take all the kids fishing again then.

guess we differ there. I cant stand the heat. Especially if its a humid area. We are right on lake superior and in the summer its humid and you can have anything over 80. Really anything over 75. But over 80 and humid? Ill take winter any day over that. Nice thing here though is the hot and humid weather i hate is only maybe two weeks of summer. The rest is nice 70-75. but you couldnt pay me to live on the coast down south. I did 8 years in the service in that crap and have no plans to ever go back. Never forget the day i reported to Little creek VA. Got of the plane from michigan. When i left it was nice and sunny and about 70. Got off the plane in VA and it was 97 and the air had a haze to it you could have cut with a knife. I struggled to breath. Now if your idea of outside is parking a chair in the yard both can be misserable but at least in the winter you can dress warm and unless its below zero you can do things comfortably like skiing, snowmobiling fishing ect. In the heat you cant go naked and even if you do its probably hotter and NOTHING is fun to do buy ride around with the AC on. I guess to a small extent you get used to both. I know the first year in VA was missery to me. But it went from hell to purgatory after the first year. But if you want REAL heat try the jungles of south america. I couldnt even wear underware because they got soaked in sweat and gave you rashes. I dont think i could ever adapt to that kind of heat.

Believe me, humidity is a very small problem here.

Can't handle much cold myself.
Too much of my mother's side
of the family in my blood.
Joint pain and muscle cramps
during the dreary cold and rainy
times. Sweat is easier for me
to endure because I can wash
it off and be done until the next

I worked around there. Having moved from Georgia I didn’t mind the humidity.
Ever stop by Poppas Pub just outside the gate at Lakeshore and Diamond Springs? It was our after work watering hole.
That gate is now gone.

This time of year in West Texas is great. The trees along the Canadian River are changing, the morning s are in the 40s, and the highs are around 70. The cattle still look good, the calves are growing,  and the horses feel good in the cool air.

You move cattle in the mornin, and the saddle horses are tied to the fence with steam comin off them from the sweat. What a site.

I have a little trouble getting on and off, but once I'm on, I'm almost young again.

Going up the north side of the Caprock Sunday I stopped here just to  look, and watched two cows movin through the mesquite off to my right. Nacho saw'em  before I  did. Man it was peaceful

Looks peaceful. In my youth I prowled the eastern caprock quite a bit. Of course I was on foot and there was no one around to even know. I grew up just north of Rock Canyon, an easy walk away, and frequented it a lot. I wish I could go there and take pictures now but even if allowed I couldn't manage the terrain and neither could a horse even if I could mount up now.
