Buffalo has a naval museum (on the water)..along with some other military items on the land.  I have been aboard thye two ships..slept overnight on the Cruiser, but never have went aboard the sub.
Here is a video..don't see any credits, but I suspect the drone video is some of my son's work..he has contributed much  photo work to the museum.

Don’t forget the WW1 & WW2 air wars. Fly Boys and The Memphis Belle come to thought.

The Destroyer (the smaller ship..for we land-lubbers)n would have sunk last year, bnut for the shallowness of the water near the dock.  They have it fixed and operational bny now.
The cruiser is a guided missile cruiser named the "Sullivans", in honor of the 5 brothers who all went down on the USS Indianapolis during WW2..

I have never seen a warship of any kind. Some freighters and work boats is all I have managed. I worked with a guy that had been a submariner in WWII and we became good friends. He didn't talk about the war and I never asked. He did volunteer that he was one of the one's in the liberation of the Bataan Death March survivors and had a real hate for the Japanese. He wouldn't even consider buying anything that was made in Japan. I was good friend with another and his bunch was over run somewhere in the Pacific and the had to bail out in the middle of the night without even having time to put on their boots and all of them cut their feet all to pieces running bare foot over coral. He never mentioned a word about the war all the time I knew him and the only way I found out was after he passed and my son looked up his service record for his son because he never talked to his family either. I did know that he has real dislike for Japan. He had a bunch of medals including a silver star. He always avoided being alone and I figuered it was war related but wasn't about to mention it to him. We never uncovered the reason after he was gone.

There were several of those vets that kind of took me under their wing when I showed up as pretty green welder when it involved the oilfield. They are all gone and I now have a lump in my throat after typing this. I miss every one of them.

Dad was the youngest of 11 in his family. he served in korea in the navy. He had 4 older brothers. One died from cancer when he was 17. 3 of them served in ww2. One was kia one came home without a leg and the other was shot in the stomach but recovered. All three had a purple heart. The two that survived it died in there 50s mostly  because they were alcoholics. Probably ptsd before they knew what ptsd was. They would rather eat goat crap then buy ANYTHING made in japan. My dads last car was a suburu. I told him his brothers if they were still alive would have kicked his ass for buying that car. His father was the unique one. He served at the end of ww1 for about a year and a half in the navy. they let him take a discharge when the war ended. He was then drafted into the army in ww2 and served two years in it. Never talked to anyone who had served in one war and was drafted into another. Im sure there were more that it happened to but ive never personaly heard of one. He didnt get a scratch on him in either war. At one time durning the war 3 brothers and the husbands of 2 sisters on my dads were all in the war at the same time and at one time both my grandpas served at the same time.

My grandpa on my mothers side and his brother signed up for the marines two days after pearl harbor. Neither were injured. Both of them were smart men and had even had some college time which was rare back then. So they were mostly paper pushers in the marines. On both sides of my family you were expected to serve your country. I think of all my cousins only 3 didnt. I remember as a kid my ma and dad were sitting at the table trying to make a savings plan for if my sisters went to college. I ask them why i wasnt being discussed and dad looked at me and said "you have the GI bill to pay your way. I think i was about 12 then. The family tradition has slowed to a crawl though. Out of my nephews only 3 served. Two twin boys of my youngest sister are still in the air force and will no doubt retire there. One other served in the air force. My cousins on my mas side have kept it up though. Most of those boys and even a couple of the girls have served. Each and every one a marine like grandpa.
