I got a bag of once fired Winchester 45 ACP brass from a club member of mine.  This guy does not deal with junk and it was all cleaned, deprimed, and even belled.  For some reason the flash hole for the primer is larger than other 45 ACP carts that I have seen AND used.  He called Winchester and they supposedly told him that these were perfectly safe to use and that you didn't need any special primers with them.  He even loaded some for himself and used them in a 45 ACP wheelgun and says he had no problems.  I have been loading since the 70's and in the past when I had brass that had a larger than normal flash hole I used them as gauges for seating depth, etc.  Anyone have any experience or thoughts with brass of this nature.  Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.  These will be fired in a Springfield Govt. 1911A1 V-12 with ported barrel.  Thanks much.

Sounds like the cases for the lead-free primers.  They are reputed to have slightly larger flash holes.

These were used at regular pressures, so I can't see them being a problem.

OK and thanks for the info.  I will use them as the guy I got them from is very careful with his reloads and I personally know that he would not toss some junk my way.  By the way Ricciardelli you have an interesting web page.  I bookmarked it for future reference.  Lots of good material on it.  Never hurts to gain some more knowledge.  Thanks again guys for the input.  That's why I like this forum so much.  Lots of knowledge and people freely share it.  Thanks again.

The Winchester 45ACP for nontoxic primers have a "NT" on the headstamp, and the primers are smaller than standard.

We have been hashing this out on another list just today; the consensus seems to be that there are NT in Large primer, with larger flash hole, and some with Small primer, some with slightly enlarged flash hole, some with enlarged holes.  The Winchester web site says all NT WINCLEAN cases are safe to reload, regardless of flash-hole size.

There is a warning hanging up in the local gun shop that says Winchester does not recommend loading ANY NT cases that have the smaller pocket.  I know we are talking flasholes, but I thought Id throw that out in case anyone thought about using the smaller pocketed cases.
