A little excitement north of Lovington yesterday morning
« on: October 24, 2022, 05:01:19 AM »
I'm back to sleeping in my recliner and was awake at 5 AM yesterday morning having just returned from a trip to the bathroom. I heard a tap, tap sound that soundel like some one kicking a door somewhere out side. Then I heard another tap, tap and got up to investigate. After quickly looking out north and east windows and seeing nothing I went to a south window and before I got there heard two more tap, taps and then three quick ones and it soaked in that is was gunfire somewhere south of me. I looked out and could see a vehicle with it's lights on facing east at a large metal building on the second property south of me. I went outside and saw the vehicle turn around and head for the county road . It went behind a house and I could no longer see it but could hear it leave going south toward town in a hurry. Then yelling by a man and what what sounded like a woman and kids screaming started. In just a minute or so I could hear faint sounds of sirens from the direction of town and three law enforcement vehicles arrived followed quickly  after by an ambulance, then another ambulance, and finally, a third. Two more law enforcement also showed up close behind them and during all this another LE vehicle came from some where north at high speed and continued on south.  All I could see was lights as it is still dark at that hour. It didn't take but just a few minutes for the first ambulance to leave going toward town and soon we heard a helicopter fly by heading northeast. The hospital has a helicopter they use to transport critical case to Lubbock so I suppose someone was seriously wounded.

There won't be a paper published until tomorrow and I don't do social media so I have no idea about details. This has been reputed to be a drug cooking and dealing place for years. It it also kind of a little Mexico as the owners have moved in three trailer houses and a small camper besides their home that people live in. It's also been a knock down, drag out, screaming, cursing fight place between men and women for years and the SO is a frequent visitor there.  Nothing seems to change, only get worse. If not for this bunch this would be a quite, kind of sleepy place even with the influx of new homes in the last few years.

Actually that is the first ever incident out here and I have lived in this home since March, 1963.  A couple of years ago Lovington was ranked as the safest "city" (10,000 pop.) in NM. Most of the county's population lives on south in and around Hobbs which is where stuff like this happens. Hobbs is #8 on size in the state but only qualifies as #10 on the danger scale. As towns get larger and farther north the danger increases.

This was just locals which grew up right here and have always been on the wrong side of the law. We have our share of illegals but most are simply looking to work and keep under the radar. We are quite a distance from the Mexico border.
