Today I went squirrel hunting with my children
« on: October 28, 2022, 02:04:09 PM »
A fine day. We saw a multitude of game animals. Everything from deer to woodpeckers and everything in between. 1 squirrel in the freezer. A good day overall...

Hopefully, if they don't already know
how, they learned something about
dressing game.
JMHO- it's a very important skill.
Way too many people around this
area can't even get the guts out of
their own deer
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

My son helped me and was not at all squeamish about it. Cut its heart out and told him, here, have a heart. He took it no problem. I showed him the scent glands that Need to be cut out and had him smell them. That sunk in. My daughter was inside reading and was disappointed she missed out. Next time... It takes 2 or 3 gray squirrel with fried potatoes to make a meal for one so I banked this 1... We saw a butt load of squirrel yet I was trying to get them to take them. They will improve, I’m on the decline...

That's good
Hopefully they'll progress even
more as time goes by.
There's a WHOLE LOT of people
in my region that can't dress and
preserve and prepare fish and
game, much less cook something
bought from a grocery store.
There's many many that can't
consistently kill edible animals
or catch fish around here. That's
why I have the opinion that if
there was a SHTF situation happening,
the wildlife wouldn't be rapidly
depleted because so many can't
produce with the fairly optimal
conditions we have at this point
in time
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Did you bark the squirrel? A trick some N Carolina Hillbillies showed me. If the gun they had wasn't a shotgun, and to big they would shoot the tree branch right underneath them and stun the squirrel with the bark. Hey it worked, i seen em do it.
