...25 days worth of diesel left?
« on: November 02, 2022, 01:24:18 PM »
That's what some reports are saying...  Since Biden got into the act and started screwing things up.

      https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/us/diesel-shortage-across-the-us-reports-say-only-25-days-of-supply-left/articleshow/95118597.cms?from=mdr

If that's the case, even if the were told to start expanding production today, they couldn't save us from severe shortages.

It is not like when we move from one room to another and snap on a light switch..  One can't go into a refinery an djust flip a 8switch and start producing%..

Moving a freshly made (by Amish) hunting cabin into my woods...and have plenty of windfalls etc to clear out anyways.
A funny thing happened, when my grandson who deals in exotic woods and forges custom knives, sawed off a broken off stump, then cut a skice about 8" thick from the stump.
The piece he retained looked a bit "dozy" so I asked him why he saved that piece.  He replied.."that slab of wood will bring me in about $600..after cutting and stabilizing.."  ...And so it did..

He uses some of the wood for his own custom knives, and markets the rest..  See sample below..which is one he gave to Grandpa..

When I'm splitting wood, if I find a piece of something "different", I set it aside and use it for projects.

I have some REALLY nice pieces of maple, oak and walnut set aside right now; I'm going to make a clock for my friend's "housewarming" party he's going to have once his house is done out of maple.

I've got huge amounts of wood like that hanging around, even some exotics...

Some real surprises can be hiding in your wood pile.   When my grandson gets some firewood delivered, he checks it through as he
uses it.  A couple times he has found a piece of wood that paid for the whole pile...

If you run into something very interesting, check with these guys..   https://www.facebook.com/groups/2445848135494253

They will often buy raw wood, and do the stabilizing themselves.

So Those diesel ram trucks are not such a good purchase. Not right now anyway. There is ,or was a diesel refinery in
Artesia NM.

It is still there and my oldest grandson's mother-in-law is pretty high up in their management department. I would hate to work there. She and I get along great but probably not if I were subject to orders from her. She has a serious case of short person syndrome.

dont know about that. At least for a 1/2 ton diesel.  My neighbor bought a 1/2 ton silverado with that 3.0 straight 6 deisel in it. I get 17 with my ram for an average of highway/town. Hes getting 27 for an average. Thats 10mpg and even with diesel prices being higher then gas and it costing 2k for the option. It wouldnt take long to make that back and start saving money. Im thinking seriously about one myself. Diesel isnt going anywhere. Even if they banned gas vehicles (very doubtfully) they still need diesel for the big trucks. They arent going to make them electric. Truckers are taking it in the shorts with diesel prices and my guess is that will be one of the first "energy policy changes" Without diesel for trucks and trains this country will come to a crashing halt. I drove his truck once. It doesnt have the snort my hemi does but it does produce more torque so if you were actually using a truck to haul stuff it would really make sense. As it is its still a peppy truck. Every bit as quick as my early 2000 silverado v8s. Now i sure dont need a 3/4 ton diesel truck or its 80k price tag but i wont generalize on that either because some do have a use for them. I know that when i had my 25 foot boston whaler my 1/2 ton did struggle towing it. i wouldnt even think of dragging it more then a 100 miles. Thats another good thing about those diesel half tons. Take my ram or my last silverados and put just an empty trailer behind them and mileage took a nose dive to around 12. Neighbor pulls a 25 foot camper with his and gets 24 pulling a camper. Substantially better then my gasser get empty. If the prices got normal again and interest rates went back down id probably be at the dealership myself. Right now the exact truck a 2020 i bought in 2019 is 10k more and interest rates are at least 2 percentage points higher. I want a new one but this one is paid for and only has 50k on it so i had to put my want behind and face the fact that im better off just driving it a few more years. but i wont say a certain truck is silly  or doesnt make sense because everyones use for a truck is different.

I suggested that to my grandson, especially since he often works with a couple Forged in Fire champions.  The one he works most regularly with is what I guess you would call a grand champion..in a runoff.

He is contemplating it..but has made no decision yet .  He does sell some of his Damascus billets to a couple F in F winners.

It's always something to create worry and hysteria among the masses with the news. First it was "only 25 days supply of diesel left when normally it runs from 35 to 55 days. Now it "tumbling" crude prices because of weakening demand and both headlines occurring in a short period of time.  Note: lower oil prices mean lower gasoline and diesel prices which means lower transportation costs when means lower consumer prices. Another note: the oil companies were still drilling right along when oil was only $40 a barrel. Main stream news is still doing the old "if it bleeds it leads" thing, only greatly expanding and exaggerating the things that "bleed".

It will go beyond 25 days, because they are still producing daily..just not as much as needed..or enouh 9to keep the prices in line.

It is 23 days now.  At this rate, we will run out after Christmas or the first of the year.  Yes, they are producing, but use is faster than production.  In September we had 35 days, end of October 25 days, so we are using about 10 days more a month than we are producing.  Dems are not going to do anything, especially if they lose big time Tuesday.  They will try to sabotage the Republicans.  Even if the Republicans pass a law to open up drilling and pipeline construction, Brandon will veto it, as they want to destroy America.  Maybe all the fry oil from restaurants can be collected and processed to make diesel, and that will help.  Don't know if slowing trucks down to 55mph would use less or not.  Trains, don't know what they would do.  They could pull the old coal steam trains out of museums and use them, to decrease diesel use, but more coal would have to be mined and it would take at least a fireman to help on a steam locomotive, whereas only one engineer is on a diesel train.

Then, they could only ship food and drugs, and other non-perishable cargo would have to be put on hold, like clothes, shoes, furniture, and appliances.  Hello recession or depression.

Cutting back on drilling and pipeline construction has contributed to the shortages and high prices worldwide.

Dems say oil companies have tied up leases and not used them.  In defense of the oil companies.  It takes time to move existing drilling equipment once a well is finished to a new location.  The first have to go in and use sonic tests on the leases to see where to drill.  It may take a year or two or maybe more to get a drilling rig going on a lease.  Stupid dems want to blame the oil companies, but they are the ones that restricted them in the first place.  They have no concept of how to run a business.

Grocery stores carry a 3-5 day supply of milk yet don't run out. Why? Because cows keep producing milk.
Same with diesel fuel and refineries.

I am located on the northwest corner of the Permian Basin and drilling hasn't slowed a bit. Maybe elsewhere but not here.

No drilling where I'm at, but pump jacks on older wells are running 24/7 on some, and timers on others.
