What?  No 'Bee on Weck'   ....And no PB & J?

Everybody knows PB & J, but not everybody knows Beef on Weck.  It began at Schwabl's restaurant in 1837, and continues
to be very popular in this area.  (several counties)

Many people coming to or returning to this area, put Beef on weck as one of their "must do" list.  Perhaps it is because the very special
bread involved, called Kummelweck, is not being baked just everywhere.

Always served with horse radish..or at least 'horsey sauce'..of which use is optional.  Very rarely however, is the horse radish turned down.  If you visit this area, I recommend you put it/ on your list.

  https://www.10best.com/destinations/new-york/buffalo/west-seneca/restaurants/schwabls/

  From a food blog;

Although it’s unclear who first sold the beef on weck in Buffalo, the history of the sandwich leads back to a man named William Wahr, a German baker from Bavaria, who brought the kummelweck roll with him to the states in the late 1800s. The kummelweck differentiates a beef on weck from any other sliced roast beef sandwich: The bread roll is hard-shelled but soft on the inside, slightly salty, and topped with caraway seeds (“kummel” in German means caraway). Schwabl’s — named after founder Sebastian Schwabl, a German immigrant — has been around since 1837, serving beef sandwiches on kummelweck rolls. There aren’t concrete records that affiliate Wahr with the restaurant, but Schwabl’s own lore is quick to claim the title of Buffalo’s original roast beef on kummelweck.

A Philly cheese steak at several locations in Philadelphia. I travel constantly for work, and cheese steaks in Philly are awesome.

my own philly cheese steak made from thin sliced venison loin. Second to me is a cudighi. Its kind of a regional italian sausage that has sweet and hot in it it. It very unique. Served with pizza sause moz cheese fried onion peppers and mushrooms. I make my own out of pork but but it usually a bit warm for ma. Third would be a small bar on the east end of the UP where i first grew up. Its a whitefish hoggie and they filet the fish right there before they cook it for you.

not much up here. Most of them make a tomato-based sauce for pulled pork when we all know its suppose to be cider vinegar. Best pulled pork i ever ate was at a roadside stand a few miles outside of Fort Bragg NC.

I've tried numerous times to like pulled pork. I haven't found any, and avoid it whenever it's offered. I like mine, and my nephews short ribs, but don't care for anything pulled, or shredded, and soaked in BBQ sauce.

There is BBQ joint in Roswell, NM that was started by some folks from North Carolina many years ago. They were smart enough to use Texas style sauce and it was jam packed every time I was there until the last time I went. They had switched to the sour NC style sauce, no other option. I have never returned. In my opinion, no sauce at all is better than NC style. Do enjoy coleslaw though.

The NC barbecue I’ve had was more hot not sour a little zing to it but definitely not sour. They must have used to much vinegar. I also like it with barbecue sauce but prefer the other.

I can also appreciate a decent burger..

We have the usual McDonald's and Burger King around here, and up near the city, Red Robin and some specialty burgers are available.

Although I don't eat a lot of meat..and I have to take half a Big Whopper home with me to finish later, there is one burger i prefer
 above the others.

Whenever i visit my grandson near Kansas City.. it is mandator that at some time we visit Culver's.. primarily because we do not
have a Culver's anywhere near home.

  Ck out Culver's...    https://www.artsychowroamer.com/blog/2020/2/24/what-to-get-at-culvers-butter-burger

I just order the single butter burger, but after seeing the video in the link, next time i may HAVE to order the deluxe..even if I do have to pack rat half of it home with me.

..And if that cheese is Wisconsin cheddar...so much the better..

We used to have a family farm show here where a stand sold Pork hamburgers cooked on a charcoal grill, those were one of the best burgers I have ever had any where.
Sadly the old man died and the sons did not want to continue the show, and I have never seen them offered any where else for the past 20 plaus years.

There is a bar-grill up here on old 152 that serves good old fashioned beer joint greasy burgers while  they have the best German burger of any place that sells them, plus they are low priced.

we are fortunate to have a bar about 20 miles from here that has the best burger ive ever ate. Summer time we often go for a cruise saturday afternoon and probably 3/4s of the time make sure were by there at supper time. Dont even go there in the winter. Theres usually 200 snowmobiles in the parking lot all day long. Now i do do pork Italian sausage on the grill and its great.
