Happy Thanksgiving eve, and Day.
« on: November 23, 2022, 12:08:10 PM »
Thank goodness I still have a turkey in the freezer from last hunting season. The stores were crowded and turkeys were sold out.

Apparently turkey is still a great buy in meat.    I was in Aldi's today... and they had Butterball turkeys at $1.09 per pound.

We'll be eating at Matt's house on Thanksgiving so I'll be smoking our turkey on Friday instead of tomorrow.

I thought about boiling it in oil, but I've heard a lot of horror stories about doing that. Smoking is better, and thats what we are going to do. Our neighbor has a smoker so i left it with him four hours ago. Thawed it out yesterday.

I deep fried a couple back in the oughts but some peed and moaned about the crispy parts, (I loved the crispy skin) so I quit doing it.

Easy to do if you turn measures twice and cuts once before even starting by putting water in the cooker and then setting your frozen turkey in to see how much oil to use.
After the turkey is in, just dump water till the turkey is barely covered take the turkey out and mark, on the outside, the level for when you put oil in.

Drying the turkey as much as possible really helps.

Heading into the Twin Cities tomorrow to the other halfs nieces place; she is a good cook, (if she does not get on a real diet, she wil never see 50) but the hard part is to not pig out on the hors d'oeuvres and candy she sets out.

Happy Thanks Giving to one and all; turkey is God's gift to mankind while pumpkin pie is God's dessert. 8)

Happy and safe Thanksgiving to all

Not much festivities here.
Some of the feel-sorry-for-the-greyhairs
gave me some food items even after me
insisting that I had adequate food and the
stuff they were trying to give should go to
a family.  Oh well.  I've been drinking the
coffee today and I ate the cookies and
I'll probably cut the meat off the bird and
fry it as "chicken nuggets " except cut
from a turkey. Done it bunches of times
when I got to turkey hunt regularly

My son and daughter-in-law flew out this morning to California, so I would have been celebrating alone.  However, my grandson told me that his mother, my son's first wife...would like my presence at her house.

Actually, I would as soon be at home alone, eating a baloney sandwich, but I sure don't want to offend her for
such a gracious offer.  So I will likely be there for dinner.

I bought me a turkey at .49 and one at .59 cents a #. Been eating turkey for the past week and had a strip roast, fried shrimp, mashed taters, stuffing, gravy and a fudge brownie on chocolate steroids for desert :) sure hope I did not ruin my 200# +p girlish figure :)
