Checkin Cattle This Mornin. 14 Degrees AND!
« on: November 30, 2022, 10:26:29 AM »
This little 6 point mulie stepped out from behind a mesquite tree. Wasn't much of a challenge at about 100yds, but he'll eat good.

I guess most folks here wouldn't have shot that deer, but I've never been a horn hunter. And he'll fit nicely in the freezer.

I've always ordered the Remington corelok bulk bullets in 55 grain soft points. And I use the same powder and charge that I've used since about 1977. Just a plain ole bullet at 3300fps. Its always worked, and I can load'em in my sleep.
I've never owned an AR that didn't like the load. That deer took my typical lung/heart shot and humped up, walked about 30' and gave up the ghost.

That bullet and that shot will usually exit on a whitetail, but it didn't on this bigger mulie. All the blood was out of his mouth. His lung were a mess when we gutted him out.

What was the distance?  What is the longest distance you have killed a deer with a 223?

This one was between 100 to 120 yds. Longest  about 200yds on a whitetail.
