We can send billions to Ukraine, but we can't give rail workers paid sick leave.

The way it was explained on
the "news " that I heard, the
Union leaders are interpreting
"Sick leave " as additional vacation
time to be used as such, and
"sick " has nothing to do with it
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

I'm of the impression that some places operate that way. Ie, leave is leave no matter what you use it for. Never worked in one of those places, but my brother taught in a school that had that policy. Never quite understood the logic of that policy.

Hear you, but still don't buy it. Worked with a guy who gave back nine months of sick leave when he retired because he had almost never been sick. It was the right thing to do because that was the rules then. They later changed the rules so when I retired, I got paid for my sick leave. That was a good move on mgt's part and avoided many people lying so they could be on leave for months with the job going unfilled. Putting people in the position where they think they have to lie is never a good thing. Once you lie about one thing, why not about another?

It's not the government's place to give a worker employed by a private company anything.  This would not be paid by the government anyway (of course, *nothing* really is, it comes from taxpayers), it would be paid by the rail companies to the tune of almost a billion dollars per year (they are demanding *15* paid sick days per year, on top of their already generous pay and vacation benefits).

The proposed contract had already been agreed to by a majority of the unions involved, but now they see an opportunity to force the companies to give in to their demands at the gun point of a holiday rail strike - typical brinksmanship tactics.

“Come on man” it just 100 billion? so far. Easy spending other people’s money.

Yep, just 100 billion funneled to a corrupt government from another corrupt government that doesn't have to answer to voters anymore because they just steal elections.

Looks like they are asking for 7 days. Somehow I and everyone I ever knew got by with only three. Guess the young workers just aren't as tough as we used to be.
