this deer season SUCKED
« on: December 04, 2022, 07:06:51 AM »
Was sick all through rifle season so went out to camp thrusday night to hunt the start of muzzleloading on friday. Got to my blind friday morning and hauled in a grill tank of propane for the heats. Some how dropped it on my foot. Ive got neuropathy so bad in my feet that it didnt even hurt. Got back to camp after looking at a bunch of (censored word) does and took my boot off and my sock was soaked with blood. Took it off and i smashed my big toe and the one next to it and the nails were just barely hanging on. Still didnt hurt so i didnt think much of it. That is till i put my boots on the next morning and tried to walk! found out i still have some feeling in those feet!! Forced myself to walk out and again looked at does all day. Woke up this morning and said piss on it packed my stuff and came home. Dont need a deer that bad.

I had good luck,  and unless I accidentally run across a whitetail buck or doe, I'm done. Hope your foot gets better.

My wife suffers from the same ailment so I have a idea of what you go through. Our neurologist has had some success with electrical therapy but my wife has a pacemaker so that option is out for her. I wouldn't wish this condition on anybody. Well, maybe some democrats at the national level like slojo.

The only one of my bunch that went deer hunting this year got one and with a rifle I build a lot of years ago in trusty old '06 caliber.

Will 3006 still kill these "modern deer"? I figured you'd have to have a "modern cartridge". :-\

Have to go somewhere else to hunt with my 30-06, I'm stuck in the limited zone in southern MI.     Got an 8pt opening morning, then passed on a nicer 8pt hoping that it'd find it way down to my sons stand.  So far all he's seen are 6pt or smaller.  He always figures he has to get one as least as big as mine so he's not shooting anything until one comes by.   I still have an unresticted tag and a doe tag and want to fill up the freezer some.  Been sick the last week, but hunted every open day since the 15th.

Lloyd, sucks about the foot.  I've got neuropathy but not as bad as yours.  Take care of your feet, the deer will still be there next year.

Best to get that foot soaking in
some hot water and epsom salts.
BTDT,  except the foot was smashed
when a coworker dropped a truck
door on my foot and the bottom
edge broke the big toe and the two
adjacent ones and blood blistered
the others. Ruined shoe and sock
full of blood and missed most of
that bow season. The big one still
hurts and twinges on cold dreary
drizzly days. People that say that
doesn't happen are FOS and have
never experienced it
Good Luck
Tend to it or the DRs may start
whittling
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

yup dee the doc said there are 3 main causes of it. diabetes like you. Alcoholics and People who have had chemo for cancer. I dont fall into any of those 3. Doctor that tested me said i was hands down the worse hes tested that could still walk and anyone else close had a severe case of one of those other three things. He said someday that privilege of walking might go away for me. Im sure mines do to my back injurys and all the surgerys and all my joint replacements. But after he tested me I asked him how i was doing. He said dammed well because you shouldnt be walking. He said lifes been a two edged sword for me. My life style and career choices caused it but my working out and staying active kept me strong enough that im overcoming more then i should be able to overcome. I know at least some of it right now is because im in need of back surgery number 8. Had an mri done and they said the spinal cannel was closing in again. Just had it opened up 2 years ago. At that time the doc said next time it will be a fusion at that level. I have an appointment to see my back surgeon next month but im tired of (censored word) surgerys. Seems like one just leads to another and unless hes sure he can help this neuropathy from getting worse im not getting cut again. Back pain is something ive lived with all my life and i can bite the bullet and live with it like i have for over 40 years but this neropathy and not being able to walk has me nervous.

Sorry to hear that Lloyd...  I hope you get that sorted out soon.

I know a guy that had no feeling in his toes and part of his foot, on one side.  He woke up in the morning and there was a lot of blood in his bed!  When he went to get up, he saw that his pitbull had chewed some of his toes off, sometime in the night!

How would you like to wake up to that??

Wouldn’t have a pit bull. They are illegal to own in some countries. For good reasons, they ain't right in the head.

Since NM seems to be the last place any new thing shows up we probably haven't received our supply of modern deer yet. Grandson shot this one with a 150 grain Hornady as there was no Remington Core-Locted ammo to be had anywhere. 150 gr. Core-Locted has always been my deer load as it would put 3 shots in an inch out of this rifle and an inch and a quarter out of my much lighter rifle at 100 yards. Always one and done right there with it. The Hornady shot just as accurately as the Remington and was just as effective.

I am always behind the times also. My most modern rifle cartridge is the .223.

Say DM;  that guy didn't keep that pit bull, did he?

Nahh, “ it’s how they are raised “ :) one astute individual told me that chihuahuas were the most aggressive dog :) my response “ even if true, which I doubt, what harm could they do ? “
