ford reliability this suprised me (this is copied)
« on: December 19, 2022, 12:55:23 AM »
Ford Motor Company spent $3.923 billion in warranty costs in 2020 for 4.19 million cars sold globally, nearly $2 billion more than GM in a year where auto factories had to shut down for two months. Consumer Reports' Annual Reliability Study rated the Ford brand 22nd out of 26 automakers in 2020, Lincoln pulling up in the caboose at 26th. In 2021, things got worse, Ford spending $3.952 billion on warranty claims for 3.94 million cars sold — and those two years were massive improvements over 2018 and 2019. Ford did climb two spots in CR's reliability survey, Lincoln remained last. This year's a bit mixed, Lincoln reaching 10th place on the CR survey, Ford at 18th, the same place it held in 2021, and both brands moving up slightly in CR's Brand Report. However, Ford has had 46 recalls covering 6.8 million vehicles through the first seven months of this year, more than triple the next brand, Tesla, nearly five times GM in third. And CR rates bread-and-butter models like the Explorer and F-150 below average for reliability, so too the in-demand Mustang Mach-E, and says, "All other Fords are average."

Good to know. Thought maybe the acres of Ford trucks waiting for computer chips may be a little cheaper when they finally get the chips and considered buying one if the price was right. With today's technology I figured most trucks are pretty dependable and considered maybe buying other than GM.

I've worked at Ford new car dealerships
parts and service departments since 1981,
and I can tell you that the bean counting
pinheads at all manufacturers of automobiles
have ran off more excellent truly qualified
intelligent technicians with their insane
unworkable "innovations" and goofy warranty
policies than I can count. ( I'll also have to
slide automotive insurance companies in
there also)
I know a bunch of really great technicians
that have left and gone on to independent
shops, or opened their own shops, or took
a different career path to see them to their
retirement age.  The dealerships used to be
the elite problem solvers, but corporate
America turned them all into McDonald's

Just as well to buy whatever you can get
the best money deal on and keep it until
it's scrap. Not a whole lot of difference
anymore

...keep it until
it's scrap.

Unfortunately, they are ALL delivered, "Factory Fresh", as scrap with inflated price tags to cover the bloat that exists in assembly line worker Union contracts and Democrat political kickback schemes.

all this gas mileage standards and electric car crap might be great for certain truck buyers right now. Seems chev and gmc cant give away there full sized trucks with 4 cyl turbos. The lots are full of them because people want v8 trucks and the new ones are coming soon. big rebates are starting to come on the full sized gm trucks but only the 4 cyls. If you can live with that motor. IT might be the time to buy. Now personally i want nothing to do with a turbo 4 cyl full sized truck but have drove my neighbors and honestly it felt quick. Im just leary of how it will hold up when really worked.

Small gasoline turbocharged engines
in road vehicles just don't last here.
The underhood temperatures are too
much for the high temperatures of this
region.  Even if the powertrain lasts,
all the plastic and rubber under the
hood is toast quicker than it would
be otherwise.  Running the A/C during
the hot summer doesn't help to
dissipate the heat

Those 4cyl trucks will be perfect for the yuppies around here who think working a truck is buying 4 bags of mulch at Lowes.

or hauling there groceries home from walmart. Dont worry even up here in the sticks we have them but i guess they can justify it because of all the snow we get. Id much rather be on the road in a storm with a full sized truck with a full frame then some rinky dink little glorified go car with front wheel drive. At least if you get smacked you stand a chance. Very few familys up here dont have at least one 4x4 be it a truck or one of those yuppy suv things. Biggest selling car in this area is probably the 4x4 Subarus. Thats what our global warming hippys drive. Bought my wife a new buick vernano some years back. She loved it all summer but after the first snow storm she was taking my truck to work. So after only 9 months we traded it on another truck. Took it in the ass on that trade but it was still worth it. You couldnt get her to drive a car in the winter again. She drives on a couple mile stretch open to lake superior every day going to work that is the most closed road in michigan due to white outs. There is actually a hotel on either end of it. Some stop for the night before they try it and many who make it think that crap is going to continue so they get a room in the other one. Buddy of mine owns one and the Indians own the other and they love the snow storms. There are actually reflectors every 20 feet on the side of the road. They show green if you are going to close to the ditch on your side and red if youve crossed the road and are heading to that ditch. You wouldnt believe the people from out of the area that panic and stop right in the middle of the road. I hit one with the line truck when i was a lineman still. Creamed that little car. Lucky those idiots didnt get hurt.
