Bob one of my 1911s is an old government colt and it doesnt look one bit like that race gun. Will say though its a good looking piece.

The ball cut is a mystery to o me unless he's talking about the flute at the back of the ejection port. That was on the 70s Gold Cups as I recall.

Slant cut that replaced it.

It called a ball cut because that was the shape of the cutting tool; I used to know why Colt switched , do not remember exactly but I beliee the slant cut was quicker and therefore cheaper.
Used to know what year they switched , do not now, but all Colt ball cut guns had the fine blue finish so it was early.
