well if you lived up here you sing a different tune.
I might, but I don't know where "up here" is.
Iowa doesnt know what winter is. You get snow and 2 days later its gone.
Now, you wouldn't be exaggerating a little there, would you? Have snow right now that's been there for a week. (Admittedly, it's only about 6 inches.)
Come to northern michigan, nothern wisconson, northern Minesota where the roads are snow and ice covered from mid-December to late march.
AH-HA! Now I know where "up here" is. Yes, I'll concede that the lake effect snowfalls are a cast-iron B***ch, and your snowfalls are measured in feet.
Now, I'll also concede that "need" for a 4X4 system is regional, use, and driving ability based, and as such, I don't need it for a daily driver. I tow a 5th wheel camper, and drive locally, for the most part. You and yours, on the other hand, do have need of it, and you've explained it well. (You're starting to get emotional about it, BTW.)
That being said, I do have a project YJ in the back yard that I'm going to have to tear out the t-case and trans to get the clutch swapped out. Already had to swap out the rear axle because the PO let it go far enough that I found the carrier bearing rollers laying in the bottom of the diff housing.
Just a little playtoy, though. 4-banger and 5-gear. Rescued it from a farmyard for $400 so I can teach the grandkids how to drive a manual trans. Horribly neglected, but reasonable solid otherwise. Not so sure it was that good of a deal, now.
Cheers.....Roger
