You get what yyou ask for when you don't pay attention to what he did, who he was. It's kind of like Dan Crenshaw he talks a good game but he's a socialist and he's a liberal.

But in your case he's a Republican and Republicans elected him so Santos is on the Republicans in that district.

Maybe a reading comprehension test is in order for you. Or maybe,  disconnect "your phraseing nitpicker" Republicans in his district elected him (George Santos) "a republican candidate". In his district he won "the popular vote".
