Snow last night.

And thick cloud cover is messing up my satellite dishes and their reception.  It’s barely starting to work now. But no can do early this morning. When they put these in they said this wouldn't happen. Uhhh , hey you guys this isn't working  ::)

Yes, it will happen any time snow collects in the dish. It just stopped snowing here but since my wife hasn't turned on The TV I don't know if I will have to go out and sweep the snow out of our dish. With our last snow I got to make the cleaning trip. Someone lied to you about snow not bothering them.

It was the internet dish company. HughesNet, we’ve never any trouble with DISH TV. Or our portable GPS for the truck and one for the car.

We tried Hughesnet internet a couple a years back. It sucked.

And they are expensive, about $100.00. But the landline out here sucks also. Lubbock has fiber optic and it’s nice to have.
Hobbs has fiber optic also, but they aren’t going to include Clovis.

Clovis doesn't have FO? Even Lovington and dinky little Tatum do. Don't know about Eunice and Jal but I bet they do too, especially with the oil boom going on down there.

Not out where we are yet. Near Texaco which is on the state line. East of Clovis and west of Texaco, in between. It’s why we have to use satellite.

I know where Texico is. I spent an interesting night there while in high school but I am not going into details except to say vodka was involved.

I am about 4 miles from Lovington and have to make do with wireless at 18.5 gigs. A mile farther and it would be satellite for me too. Leaco spent a ton of money running FO out along the western edge of the county where hardly anyone lives but can't do the same for close to town.  ::)

I used to drive through Dora all the time on hwy 180E on my way to Breckenridge TX. Divorce Child visitation exchange of my oldest daughter. She’s all grown up now, and joined the Air Force. She’s stationed at Holloman AFB now. Like daddy, like daughter  :) I think she’s going to be a lifer from the way it looks.  Clerical duty’s mostly, but she married a pilot.

I drove down to Seminole and got onto 180 there, to Breckinridge and back. Then back to Clovis. Drove a 1978 Camaro back then. Dora is nothing more than a convenience store anymore. Texas travel map says its a ghost town.There are some houses around there. This is from the travel guide.

Although we found mention of Dora during our research, we have little information about it.<1> Given the context of how Dora was mentioned, we believe that it was a community rather than a locale or some type of landmark. We have done a cursory search and if it was a community, we haven't been able to find any evidence that it still exists..

While we are confident that Dora was located in Nolan County, we don't know its actual location within the county.

We've added Dora to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Dora - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc.

History in a Pecan Shell

The town was established in the late 1870s and is thought to be Nolan County’s first community. The name comes from Dora Collings, the postmaster’s daughter.

A school district was formed in 1891 and both Dora and (Old) Nolan, Texas (about 10 miles W) gave up population when Blackwell, Texas sprang up along the railroad (equidistant between the two communities).

Dora’s student population was absorbed into the Divide district in 1928 – causing another gouge in the declining population. In 1938 the post office closed its doors and for the 1940 census only 15 residents were reported.

Today the Dora cemetery is nearly all that is left of the community.

Dora is a pretty name. But for me, about the prettiest old town in Texas is Albany.  180 puts you right about into the center of town. The old courthouse, the old downtown shops which still had the wooden walkways. I was born in Abilene, and stayed with my granny in Clyde TX during the summer. She had bluebonnets growing all over her place, and she showed me how butcher a chicken lol. She had a tree stump with two nails sticking out of it. She would put a chickens neck in it.
Then stretched It out and cut its head off.

I freaked out, seeing it still running around! She didn't tell me that was for dinner :o. But then I20 started coming through.
Emanate domain they called it. They bought her old house (1920s house, tore it down )and her property. Moved it back and put her into a double wide. She never got over that.

Hard for an old once a pretty southern gal, who could play a Piano.  Born in 1890. Once we got her a tv and some rabbit ears. It had a show on about the North and South ,with both during of the civil war. Me and my little brother were rooting for the North.She got angry and turned it off and then explained it.

She was certainly a Texas confederate.
