Pondering a thought on why some cartridges do not exist.
« on: February 04, 2023, 06:02:59 PM »
I am putting this here because a question about a lack fo .40 cartridges in another thread got me thinking.

Why isn't there a .40 caliber rifle cartridge, well here are a cluster, new and old, 6.5 cartridges.

IF this were a line-up of .40 caliber cartridges, all just a little different, would some become as rare as many of these are regardless of how well they shoot in a good rifle.
I am putting this here because the myriad of cartridges that exist , some darn near DOA and some incredibly sucessful for marketing rather that being that much better that then fade away, makes me shake my head in disbelief some times.
(Variety is the spice of life, and it does fill that part.)

6.5s, new and old, from left: 6.5 Grendel, Arisaka, Carcano, Dutch, Mannlicher-Schoenauer, Swedish, Portuguese, and, finally, the new Creedmoor.

JMHO-  most every need for a
specialized cartridge was filled
with proven choices when I was
very young.
Most everything brought out since
I've been grown is to create a new
market for firearms and ammunition
and components and accessories
