ill never grow up
« on: February 08, 2023, 11:05:18 PM »
Did something i havent done in 30 years. I brought a new set of tires for a truck. I usually trade at 3 years but prices and interest rates are just to high right now. So im going to keep this 2020 ram. It was in need of tires. Back in the 70s i was one of those guys with the 8 inch lift shortboxes with 38s on it. It made them about useless because with under 200 hp they barely had enough power to spin stock ones. but honestly back then i didnt leave the motors alone either. Wifes shaking her head. I had the son in law put a 2in lift on it and sent it up to tire rack and had a set of 33 inch goodyear duratacs put on it. Ive got some electric retractable steps that hes was going to put on last night after work in there shop. Guess the kid in me will never die.

The kid may never die but I will assure that he will become unable to do much of anything for himself if you live long enough. I have an '04 Chevy 4by sitting in the driveway with a 2" lift and BIG tires on it. No side rails and it has become very difficult to get into with my bum hip. Getting out is easy. Just open the door and slide down. It gets driven just enough to keep the battery charged as it only gets 14mpg on really good days.

hell i took the side steps off it two weeks ago because they were to rusty to save two weeks trying to crawl into it stock and said enough and bought the electric retractable ones. .Id need a step ladder to get into those trucks i drove back in the 70s and 80s. I actually had an 04 short box standard cab chev with a 3 in lift and 33s on it. It actually wasnt to bad on gas. If i remember i was getting 19 on the highway and thats better then the 17 i get in the jeep jk Only lost 1 mpg going to 34s from 32s on it. Lot of it is in your gearing. My jeep has 410 rear and the ram 390s. THe ones that really suffer with big tires are the higher geared ones like 320s. Alot of it is tire weight too. If you look carefully theres usually lighter tires in the size you want. That doesnt help me much because all the tires i like in large sizes are 10ply and heavy.

I guess I'm too easily entertained. It's the simple things that make me happy.

dont think ive ever bought anything thinking i would make money. Well maybe stocks in my 401k plan but i might as well have bought another truck or boat because i made crap off of that. If you cant afford a new boat or a new car thats ok. Nothing wrong with a nice used one. but my time is short on this earth and im going to enjoy it. My kids dont need my money and they can sell the toys and buy what THEY WANT with the money. Lots of people like to travel. To me going on a vacation overseas or some cruise boat is lower on my want list then a trip to the dentist. Some like to camp.  Me i detest sitting around a campfire thinking about the fun things i could be doing at home. Go out to eat at some resteraunt and spend 50 bucks on a steak? No thanks. I rather throw one on the grill at home.  I didnt work my ass off all my life to drive a 20 year old pickup and then have to worry that i cant afford the gas. In that predicament id call myself a loser. I guess though. Some are happy sitting in a chair watching tv. Tell you who im more envious of is someone like Dee who is retired but found a hobby doing what he loves that actually pays money back to him. Mine all cost me money. I know fishing and hunting and shooting sure dont help the budget.
