M/y friend Dave, a /retired operating engineer tells similar stories...
One summer Dave was given a task of dozing out a transit pond for ducks, down on the old route 17, now
interstate 86. It was north side of the highway and the Allegany River... so he started work.
He worked a good share of the morning, and was having a productive day. A couple of the local kids showed up
to "supervise"...
since he was working on the Res, it was probably Indian kids.
As Dave shut down for lunch, one of the boys asked him the usual..."whatcha making Mr.?"
So Dave said he was digging a duck pond to make a landing and refuge place for ducks.
At that point, both boys piped up..."You should dig it straight across the river...that's where all the duck hang out !"
