Just made myself a Dutch Oven full of tapioca, and I mean full. Do not know how many quarts those old all aluminum Dutch oven hold but this one is full to one inch of the top.
The other half will eat a little and I may -- may -- save a quart for my brother but the rest if for me, me, me, me....
Well I was arranging the food store room and found the large bag of Tapioca Pearl mentioned above, SO, two days ago dumped two cups of pearls into said same Dutch Oven , and let it soak over night in whole milk
Next day I added almost two cup so very heavy cream , two cups of whole milk, a healthy pour of vanilla, a pinch of salt, honey, maple syrup, and some sugar.
It was not quite as high in the D O as I wanted so I added one-half cup of hot water, put it on the range just short of high, and grabbed some eggs.
Now they sere a mix of aged store bough Jumbo, and farm eggs from mixed hens.
I used five farm eggs and four store bought; the store bought were cracked ad the other half and eggs to not get along real well.
Did the warm the eggs with the warming milk mixture and poured the stirred eggs in.
Stood there for a little over one-half hour stirring constantly;
UUUUUUMMMMMMM GOOOOOOD.It was gone by yesterday so I made another batch with only farm eggs , and brown sugar.,
This time I put the Sugar, and Vanilla in the soaking mixture and added a healthy shot of white whiskey to the mixed eggs.
I is never the creamy pudding you get out of a box as I got tired of the extra dickering around it takes to get it that way over 40 years ago.
It is semi-liquid hot, but I love the semi-solid way it sets-up when it cools down.
It is already half gone and I may get a hankerin for another batch, soon.
Now I used to cook family dinners, but have not for quite some time , SO, I was surprised, this was as much as I used to make for Ma, Dad and my Brother (did not last long), I was surprised how quickly one can go through and dozen eggs and a half-gallon of milk.
Made me re-realize why so many people raise chickens.
The Fridge is packed, the other half just keeps jamming stuff in there till nothing else can go in, but with the price of Dairy products go up I going to buy more Dairy products and put it in the freezer.
