nope the odd thing is we didnt get crap out of it. Maybe an inch or two of snow. Usually this time of year we get hammered with lake effect snow but the inland areas got it much worse then we did. This has actually been the mildest winter as to snow i ever remember. Usually by this time of year the snow is 5-6 feet in the front yard right now theres about 2. Told the son in law he had to blow my snow the rest of the year because i got operated on feb 1 and count do it anymore. He has blown once. Actually twice but the second time there was only a couple inches and most wouldnt bother with it. Lake superior hasnt frozen over and no doubt wont because even munising bay isnt frozen all the way across and ive never seen that. Snowmobile trails up here are down to dirt.

...And now the leftist states are calling for all gas appliances to be gone after 2030...  The folks there who use gas or wood are staying warm..  Will the lefty legislators admit responsibility if people freeze to death by the huindreds?

i laugh. theres a hippy from New Mexico that moved up here about 5 years ago because he wanted the "wilderness experience" He had money because he put in a BIG solar and wind generating set up because hes off the grid. I talked to him one day and he was nice enough, but you could tell he was a right out of woodstock liberal. He told me at the time that he was completely self sufficient. I was skeptical because the house he built was BIG. I didnt pay much attention to it until last fall. My son in law sells firewood for a side business. I was at his house and he had his processor going and was loading his truck and big trailer. He had A LOT of wood on it. I asked he where it was going and he told me it was going to this hippy's place. I told the son in law that the guy told me he could heat with solar heat panels and some base board electric supplied by his system. Son in law laughed and said half way through the first winter he paid big bucks to have an outdoor wood boiler installed in the middle of winter with frozen ground. Guess he didnt really know what cold was. Son in law said the guy was asking if he had any idea how much it would cost to have power ran the 2 miles into his place. Guess the solar wasnt holding up in the winter when we go a month without seeing the sun. Told the son in law to wait another year or so and his place will be up for sale and he will be heading back south. Ive seen quite a few southerners wanting the "wilderness" come up here to live and most were gone after the first winter and i dont know of any who stayed permanently.

  Now let's see..

A panel with sun shining directly on it maybe 2 days out of 4, is going to do all the heating, lighting, appliances, cooking and everything else, in a cold UP winter..

Is he still smoking that stuff he smoked at Woodstock?

kind of agree with you. The cold has the advantage of keeping the lightweights out of here in the winter for the most part but as i get old it just isnt like it was back 20 years ago. The things i enjoyed doing in the snow i cant do anymore and its become almost like jail. If it were for my son id probably be asking you to scope out houses in texas or some other more conservative state. Old service buddy in NC tells me every time we talk to come on down and he would give me a small piece of land to build on. But my learning disabled son lives in an apartment out back and i would dread leaving him here with only his pos mother to check on him. So here i am probably till they stick me in the oven.

I live alone around the corner on the family compound.  Yes, the winter does confine me more than I truly like.

The confinement by cold, ice and snow causes me to regret that I cannot get out to exercise near as often as I would like. So I do what I can indoors..a stationary fan bike that exercises both legs and arms etc.

However, the countryside here from May through November, is so refreshing , wooded and leafed out..and hiding so many small niches..secluded sanctuaries among these mountains, that they are well worth the winter hibernation, to enjoy God's natural panoply, the rest of the year...

Still recently, the thought has crossed my mind of moving..but not for the seasonal situation, but for the totally tyrannical clowns the majority of the voters, the city-stupid ones..have elected to office..

In my 20's , I had the grand idea
of moving to some remote corner
of Alaska and building the cabin,
etc. etc.
Only up to the point I discussed the
prospect of Alaska with a relative that
spent several years there in the military,
and related to me about the severe
cold winter there, and the things they
had to do to survive, and the equipment
failures and such. Like truck tires getting
a winter long flat spot, and having to
leave equipment running constantly or
have a heater to plug in before you turned
it off so it wouldn't freeze until spring time,
and how things would get brittle at
minus 70F and such.
Later, a coworker that also spent military
time there was telling me about trying to
deal with the vehicles that they had to
get back in working order with temperatures
so cold your urine would freeze almost
immediately when peeing. He affirmed
that any vehicle turned off and left to
get cold was an ordeal to get restarted
if it could be done at all before spring

No thank you. I'll take the 104F summers
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .
