An interesting, 15 minute study of Amish buggies..
« on: March 01, 2023, 09:29:44 AM »
Amish buggies differ according to the local "ordnung", or rules set up by their elders.  Around here they are all black
and do not enclose the front half of their buggy, although they do have a complete roof.
Nearby my home, the buggies sometimes have a couple strips of white reflective tape, for safety at night..but no lights of SMV sign (too decorative).
Another community about 10 miles away, will not even use the reflective tape, just going about nightly travel in their black buggies.  About twice a year we lose some Amish neighbors that way.  When buggy meets car or truck, it usually comes off in second place...horse too !

I have a great grandson who is very advanced in reading, writing and lingual skills..but whenever he speaks or sees some of the Amish, he insists they are "Pilgrims"... :D ;D

Here are the 6 basic buggies, according to this documentarian..altough he seems limited mostly to Pennsylvania.
