The most dangerous addiction..
« on: March 02, 2023, 02:10:58 AM »
Fentanyl.. an ugly addiction for sure, kills twice as many per year, as all 8 years of the Vietnam conflict did.

But today I see a more dangerous addiction taking hold across our nation, 9that being the addiction and slavery
  to the smart phone.

It is degrading young people's minds to a point where they feel compelled to serve that phone, rather than
      have the phone serve them.

Physically, many of their bodies are going to mush...not near the physical condition of youth of two or
     three decades ago.

...And sadly, this addiction has also become a major problem with adults.  Perhaps if the adult is an addict, they
don't see it taking over their children.

One of the popular "social" websites is nothing more than a spy tool.. designed, maintained and operated by a major country , who is our enemy..working to destroy us !

They have been told, but the seem to patronize the enemy's website anyway.

Unless adults grow a pair..testes or ovaries choose... our youth will continue to degrade...

If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

I don't know does being glued to your computer or laptop or any kind of devise count also? I sure see a lot of threads started by you also. Is that an addiction also ? Maybe all need to grow a pair of testes not just the youth.

I indeed do stand corrected on the 8 year conflict...i should havge double checked..

However, the link you posted was also somewhat misleading..  Yes. there was conflict in Viet-nam for much ;longer than 8 years.
The French fought there for years..until their capitulation  at Dien Bien Phu in 1954.  Jack Kennedy sent "advisers in
to help the South Vietnamese in 1962.

LBJ declared war in 1964...and the first 3,500 US Marines landed on the beach just north of Da Nang in March 1965.

The peace treaty accord was signed in Paris in 1973..  The last US troops were airlifted out of Saigon in April 1975

So, the Vietnam conflict lasted 10 years for US troops..rather than the 8 years I stated (my badf), but far less than the 21 years your link covered, which included the "advisory" years.

Now let's get back to the real message of the OP..   While it is painfully obvious that Chinese made fentanyl is killing far more young Americans each year, than was killed during the entire Vietnam war.  The thrust of the OP, was addressing the dangerous addiction building in our population.  Surely by now, you may have been ignored by somebody glued to their phone, rather than doing their job..

..Or perhaps have seen an entire family out to dinner, where each is glued to their phone, while ignoring the rest of the family..

I wonder how alcoholics compare to fentanyl in addiction numbers. Id bet since prohibition was repealed alcohol be it by liver damage ect or by car wrecks has killed MANY more people. I also wonder about a government that pretends they care about fentanyl or crack and legalize other drugs just adding to the problems of poisoning our kids. Now i will say i  personally only know that died from from drugs and that was long term smoking crack. dont know anyone personally that died from fentanyl. Now i do know of some people locally but i never ran with that bunch so didnt really know them.

Now who here can say they dont know a single person that has either been killed by alcohol or killed someone because of it. Now you all know im not talking od'ing on alcohol. Im talking nerve damage, liver damage, kidney damage and wearing down a body to the point heart problems ect show up driving drunk or being hit by a drunk driver. Im sure as hell not trying to make light of fentanyl. Its a scourge. But its kind of hypocritical for me to want a bunch of (censored word) politicians to pretend to fight the drug problem while they make it worse. while the hypocrites both republican and democratic  partake in there martini lunches while they pretend to do something. The alcohol problem has been around since before this country was a country. Most likely so will drugs be around when they stick me in a box.

Sad that drugs effects kids but so does booze and i wish that wasnt so. but to find a bright spot in this. Just about everyone ive heard of that overdosed on it was on welfare its getting rid of the freeloaders. Its kind of replaced sitting on the stoop with a colt 45 jumbo every day all day. Sad fact is most of the young ones that are overdosing at least up here come from welfare families. If you want my opinion alcohol still is #1 and always will be. Cigarette smoking is right up there too.

So should we spend billions on chasing fentanyl or put it into cancer research. Just saw on tv that 40 percent of americans will be treated for some kind of cancer before they die. Half the problem with children and fentayl and crack and other drugs like herion are an epedemic because real parenting is a thing of the past. They come on tv crying that someone killed there little Suzy or johny but id about be most of those dont have a clue what there kids grades or who there friends are or what there doing on line with that cell phone they gave them.

Oh..I didn't see your remark right off, since you included it within the shading of the shading initial OP message.

Yes, you do see posts relatively often by me...but I have my laptop nearby and along the way as I do household tasks, so I just jump in now and then to check and possibly add as I pass by.

You won't see me taking it with me to use at the table..unless I am travelling.  ..And I don't bother with a phone any more advanced than a flip phone, primarily because I don't want to be too mesmerized to be polite to people.

Plus, I don't always have my flip phone with me... I guess primarily because I don't want to be one of those guys who may as well have it grown onto his hip.

So, back to the social sites..suicide rates climbing for the apogee..and gathering speed and victims.  High among habitual social networkers..especially young women.

For instance a popular site with adolescents is ..TIK TOK.. a site owned by and found to be a very useful tool for the Chinese Communist Party.

One can be a "China is our buddy" guy, or one can face reality, and call them what they are.  Covid was no accident !

I understand your concern with alcohol, and that is why I never drank it, and did not allow it in my home.
That way, my sons never got the idea that drinking the stuff is a normal path for everybody, so it never became a "regular' with my progeny.
Most are as dry as myself, but some have a drink on a rare occasion..(other side of their marriage influence)..but none have any serious drinking or drunkeness behind them.

I don't know personally of anyone who has died from fentanyl..and I cannot for the life of me, figure out why anyone would so much as TRY any dope.. ..But then, everyone is not alike..

A number of parents are now testifying about the death of their children, here's one.
