Bushnell Sharpshooter 3-9x40....same scope as comes w/t the newest Remington 710.....great scope...sharp and plenty of eye relief.....$34.95. I'm thinking about putting one of these on my new Huntsman. Anyone have one? Or better yet, already have one on their Huntsman?

Both my teenage sons have 710's and so far the scope has performed well. They have put about 50 rounds each thru them and so far holding zero very well.

Are you still considering the Sharpshooter as your scope of choice on your soon to be yours Huntsman?  I see that you are looking into the scope rail so I was just curious about the scope.

I looked at the sharpshooter at my local gun shop yesterday. Looked like a decent scope. They wanted 42 but hey by the time I pay shipping and wait. Was considering it for my huntsman also. I plan to go back Monday and pick it up. Did not have the cash on me yesterday or my check book.  I think it will work out well.

WNY_Whitetailer - Actually I'm tossing around the thoughts of one of three scopes for the Huntsman. This one or a BSA fixed power 4x, or a Tasco 3-9x40. Haven't decided yet. I do like this one though but then again who really knows for sure about any scope until you buy it, mount it, and shoot a while with it mounted. Everyone has different standards and/or likes or dislikes about scopes. I personally don't see putting a scope on a gun that cost as much or more than the gun itself. All I want is one that will let me see what I'm shooting at closer and clearer than if I were using open sights and one that will alow me to hit what I am aiming at within 3", that should cover the size of the vital organs of either deer, hogs, or coyotes. If I pay 30 to 60 bucks for a scope and get one to two seasons of shooting out of it. Then I have got my money's worth and will replace it and not feel I have lost anything. Now if I had just paid 500 - 1000 bucks for a new rifle then I would consider a Luepold, Nikon, Swarovski, or some of the other more quality expensive scopes. But why put a scope like that on a gun you're gonna use strictly for hunting and that you didn't pay more than $200 for. I just said all this because there has been a lot of talk on this site lately about scopes and I just felt like I needed to get my  :money: in. I like to type early in the morning right after a good cup of coffee anyway, it is the only legal drug ya know.........Whooo! I got to go...... just got another caffiene rush :bye:

I'll tell you what I have on my muzzleloaders...

Huntsman:  3-9x40 Bushnell Banner Black Powder: $72.00

CVA Hunterbolt: 2-8x32 Tasco World Class Black Powder: $69.00

Both of these prices included shipping.

Of the two scopes, the Tasco is brighter in low light even though the objective lens is 8 mm smaller.  Better lens coating I suspect.

You can find a Tasco World Class 3-9x40 for around $44.00 or a 2-8x32 for $41.00(Yah, I know I overpaid).  They come with a 30/30 reticle or I have seen them with a mil-dot reticle too.

Whitetailer,
I'm pretty limited on my choices down here due to the lack of good affordable outdoors outfitting stores. The markup in most of these places just says "Got to Wally World" in big bold letters if ya get my drift. I may not know a lot when it comes to scopes but it sounds like you have followed the same rule of thumb I am talking about. I'm gonna look a little harder now and see if I can locate one of those Tascos.

l2h check   www.auctionarms.com    They have a lot of scopes on there and some are pretty decent.  I put the sharpshooter on mine last night and bore sighted it. Looking forward to trying it this weekend.

bubba - Post some reports on that sucker after you shoot with it. Did you put on the rifle scope like I am talking about or the MZ version? I think they make both. I saw another one recently at a BP/MZ shop that was $79.95. I guess this was the MZ version or a big profit opportunity - one or the other.  :?
Post up soon.

I ordered a Weaver K6 for my CVA, but ended up not using it for that particular gun.  I bought a Simmons 3-9X42MM from Walmart that has a camo finish on it.  My CVA has a camo finish on it also, so I thought it would look better.  This scope hasn't really given me any problems other than it's not as bright as some of my other scopes.

The sharpshooter on my huntsman works very well. Dialed right in and has been keeping it poi after about 100 shots in the past 2 weeks. I would recommend it highly

You will not be disappointed with the gun or the scope in my opinion. I have liked Bushnell for a long time and have had very good results with them. The load I got worked up for the Huntsman was 80 grains of triple7 FFFG 240 grain lead round nose 44 cal .429 dia lead bullet I mold cast myself and a green Hornady sabot. Loads easy shoots very well.

Hey lik2hunt, I responded to your thread on the other forum and saw you note to see this thread.  I bought a bushnell sharpshooter 4x32mm about, oh, almost 15 years ago.  It has been my testing scope for new rifles/shotguns since I know it's a good scope, and if there are problems I know it's the gun or mounts.  It's seen .270 loads, 12 gauge 2 3/4 or 3" mag foster slugs and sabots, 3.5" Win #4 and #6 turkey loads, 22lr, 22 mag, marlin lever action 44mag, ruger ranch rifle, and it's now waiting to be put on my H&R Ultra 20 gauge barrel for this year upcoming deer season, where it will more than likely spend the rest of it's life (or my life, whichever comes first).

If I would have known it was going to be such a good scope I would have boughten more than just one that many moons ago!

later,

lik2hunt,

I just saw a Bushnell Sharpshooter in a fixed 4X32 for $24.99 this past weekend at K-Mart. It looked very nice for the price, but I am not sure how good they are made. You might want to check your local K-Mart, then again this might be a regional item. If they are still made as tough as Scruffy's, I might have to get me a couple. Let me know what you guys think of them.

Busta,
Hard to find a K-Mart in Oklahoma or Texas anymore. The ones I know of closed during their last coorporate restructuring. Apparently cooporate greed ruined them too. :)
I'll keep checking tho, may run on one in Okla. City or Tulsa. If I could find one in the fixed 4x that would work perfectly for the Huntsman tho I think. I was at one time thinking about the BSA fixed 4x32 at Wal-Mart. Someone from the old site posted that they had long and good success from it also, but on their Huntsman only. They're also $24.95.

lik2hunt,

I hear you on the corporate greed at K-mart, you might be able to order one online from them, some companies are doing that now.

I wouldn't give you a bent nickle for a BSA, I bought two that were supposed to hold up to shotgun recoil, both were junk in less than a dozen shots. The reticles broke loose and looked more like this (X) than this (+). I wont even spend the $20 a piece to send them in for replacement, these were not their really cheap scopes either. That seems to be the norm for BSA, I only know of one guy that has one that hasn't broke "YET"! I know of dozens that have broke.

Well guess what.....I was actually able to locate a Bushnell Sharpshooter 4x32 at Big K in Tulsa Okla.
The only problem now is when will I be going to Tulsa again. I do make a delivery there occasionally but just made two recently and don't feel like that company will be ordering again soon. Oh well maybe they will soon enough, the lady said they had three of them and that they were never very busy in that department in that store location. I'll keep my fingers crossed and see what happens.
I feel inclined to agree with ya Busta on the BSA. I have a BSA Classic 3-12x50 that I purchased used and had on my Ultra 25-06 before it went back to H&R for repairs. I think I will put it on the .223 bull that will be added to it while it is there. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed on that deal too.

I did two things today.
#1) I got to thinking while I was riding down the road today...Wal-Mart should be able to order one of those 4x32 Sharpshooters. So I called them up (have their # memorized) and asked if they could. The guy recognized me and said they were not in the book but he would call sportssouth and see if they could get them. So in about 10 minutes he called me back and said that they could order them but sportssouth had none in stock right now, but he could get on the list so I had him put in an order for two of them for me.....why not have one in reserve? Maybe for a Tracker2 20 ga. bbl that I have been considering a lot lately.
#2) I stopped at Academy and purchased one of the 3-9x40 (got a little B-Day money over the weekend) for my Huntsman just in case. It is crystal clear and has a wide angle of view (38.5' @ 100 yd. @ 3x) and has 3.5" of eye relief. I like it!! Was only $37.84 total too. So in case I don't get one of the fixed powers I still have one for the Huntsman, and if I do, well I might do some trading and put this one on the Ultra 25-06 and .....well who knows. Good to have some options tho.

Ya know, I didn't even ask.   I assume it will be pretty close to the price K-Mart has 'em for. They usually run pretty close. I'll call again when I get a chance and find out for sure tho. I did have him check the 3-9x40 while he was talking to them and it was $38.95. The one I got at Academy was $34.95 before taxes. I'm guessing the fixed power won't be over $30 at Wally.

I finally ordered 2 of these Scopes that should be here on Monday. I took one of my sons 710 and it worked great. I am really going to put them to the test because I am going to mount one of them on my 45-70.........we'll see.

Well let us know how it holds up on the 45-70. Are ya gonna shoot factory or handloads? I'm thinking of putting one of the fixed powers on a 12 ga. slug gun.
