Aptera concept car offers off grid driving..
« on: March 17, 2023, 01:56:56 PM »
Especially if you live in a sunny location.

Interesting innovative break thru vehicle could offer true off grid driving if they got the physics right.

The Aptera does not look so stupid anymore with a 14,600 miles of range solar only per year, 0-60 in 4 seconds, back area big enough to camp in. If electric goes this way, it is going to backfire on the so-called "elite" BIG TIME and that's great..

Because  if it goes this way, gasoline really will become stupid. This thing charges so fast that if you for some reason run out of juice, a 15 minute charge at a Tesla station will get you home, 50 miles away. As is, if parked properly the solar panels give more range than most people drive per year, making driving totally free, especially since they can charge up so much that you'll always be running with 400+ miles of range.
And it's designed with the diy mechanic in mind.

Big enough to camp in?  I guess if you are used to camping in a coffin.

The FISH carburretor is as much a reality as that pipe-dream.

Quote from article;  "back area big enough to camp in."   Huh!  I don't see that!  ..is there a folded pup tent in there somewhere?

Look at the 'car'...  Do you haul any groceries? Do you go anywhere with luggage? Do you take a wife and kids along?  how about some sporting goods..basket balls, guns, fishing rods etc.

It looks like it can carry about what my scooter will carry, or what an electric bike can haul

Frankly, with that statement about camping aboard...sorry but it brings the whole story into question....

  Hey, what a bargain!  A 3 wheel electric scooter for only $30,000 !   Check it out;

   https://www.capitalone.com/cars/learn/finding-the-right-car/guide-to-aptera-evs-models-cost-availability-and-range/1666

Let's see..for areas that go below 40 degrees and may have some ice or snow..

One wheel driving two, fenders that scrape any snow or slush deeper than an inch.  And where are the windshield
wipers..doesn't rain and snow fall on the Aptera, as it does other vehicles?

It sure seems that the two front wheels pushing slush and snow, may overcome what the rear wheel can push, especially since that rear wheel will have to be making it's own fresh path, pushing through the snow...

yup buy one of those ca am trike things and a pup tent and youd have 20k left for gas in something that gets 40+mpg

I think hydrogen fuel cells will be part of the future.  Someone has already built a hydrogen fuel cell car and driven over 1,000 miles with it.  Problem is there are no hydrogen fueling stations.  Electricity for charging batteries is everywhere.

Electric cars have to do three things.  Faster charging, longer range, lower cost.  Once all three are done they will replace gasoline.  Faster charging may overcome longer range.  Still have to get lower cost.

so it will work in about 5% of the country??? even tx found out it doesnt work there. one major stretch of bad weather and you have to walk to get your grocery's, your meds or get to the emergency room. but i guess it would work to get some old hippies to woodstock with one change of clothes and a big sack of weed. just hope they dont run into a couple day rain storm because peace and love wouldnt hold up long sitting in that thing
IG....it's a concept vehicle for now. I think the video said it's 2 wheel drive with an in hub motor in each front wheel, with an optional third motor for the rear wheel. With 128 electric hp on tap it's sneaky fast . With a 7 foot boot in the back I suppose camping is an option _ _ not Winnebago class A coach camping mind you.

I posted the video to prove something I have posited in the past; that it is possible to build an
E-vehicle that can operate completely off grid.
And the Aptera people have apparently figured the physics out, at least for sunny regions. Imagine what improved solar cell efficiencies and battery breakthru could do next.
Sure, I suppose Buffalo NY and Anchorage AK, etc. will always be Big Oil customers.

they make more sense thats for sure but one thing that makes me scratch my head is the process creates water that comes out of the exhaust. will it make the roads up here more of an ice rink then they already are in the winter.

I think the car batteries should use a change out system like we have with propane cylinders , just swap out  and no waiting  around for a  recharge . problem would be  making batteries universal  in the auto industry .

couldnt do that simply because tas battery tech improves they will be smaller and lighter and that is what separates the different brands. about like gm ford and dodge all using the same motor

Thinking in terms that tires will fit  universally  across the  auto brands , batteries could also. But its  not happening , unless they are forced to.

It is a redo of the enclosed 3 wheels or two with out-riggers for standing still,  motorcycle engined jobs from 35 years ago.
They were very popular even up here in the middle of Minnesota; some dude actually driving them in winter.

There were at least 3 differenent maufactureres and I saw a surprising number, up used by proffesors here at the college; within five years I saw none, any time of year.

Gimmick by those who think, 20 degrees Fahrenheit is  extremely cold.

Those of the church of Climate Change, will fight any hydrogen cell use. They are already finding as much fault as they can with the hydrogen answer.

After all, they don't want the "problem" to be solved, since it is the main source of their corrupt power.

Um, not quite 20 K. Out of curiosity I checked Can Am trike prices and you are are looking at $27,500 for a new one.

"Gimmick by those who think, 20 degrees Fahrenheit is  extremely cold."

Head out on a motorcycle at 65-70 miles an hour and you might change your mind after several miles. To those of us that live in southern climes 20 defgees isn't extremely cold but it's damn sure chilly especially when you factor in the wind that goes with it and the harder the wind blows the chillier it is.
