We can do better
« on: March 15, 2004, 03:41:22 AM »
I've been in the construction field for 27 years. I've voted since I was able. Something that has always cranked me up is the lack of folks willing to vote. I have since the 70'sa taken an informal poll after every election to find out how many actually show up. Not long ago I asked 14 of my employees if anyone voted. I got 14 no's. Reasons?
1. I had a beer on the way home, didn't want to smell like booze
2. I was tired
3. Line was to long
4. My one vote won't make a difference
5. Didn't have time
6. Had the kids and they were acting up
7. The "other guy" can't possibly win

Interesting enough, in this non-union environment, 95% + of construction workers I have personally talked to are in favor of the Republicians or libertarians. I've never found a working nail driver who backed the Dems.
Kerry can only challenge GW if we don't get the BASE voter out on election day! Good or bad...we got to do better getting with non voters.

ranting as usual, Rick :D

I've noted that how people read the newspaper indicates how they vote;

Those who read the national news, the international news, the op/ed page, the financial pages, basically, those who are well informed and balanced, vote Republican.

Those who read only the headlines/ front page, and get only the media "the sky is falling" view, vote Democrat.

And then there are those who read only the sports and comics because the rest is just so confusing, and they don't vote at all, and that's just as it should be!  I've always said that an uninformed vote is worse than no vote.
  :wink:
