The birds are out in record numbers in Steven County. Good hunting can be had on the west and south slopes of Iron Mountain. The areas to the east of Chewelah should be productive as well. Lots of public land in these areas. The Columbia (east side) river has excellent populations of birds but is hunted pretty hard. Persission to hunt private land can be had but requires some scouting and personal land owner contact. The areas to the east of Colville has lots of birds and public land but again receives a lot of hunting pressure. There is some state land along 395 to the west on Deer lake, easy access and not too much pressure. DNR maps are helpful in determining where the public land can be accessed.
