Is this a justified concern?
« on: March 15, 2004, 09:08:36 AM »
I had my new(to me) 1894 apart for some external cleaning. I note there's just one tang screw holding the butt-stock in place.

I'm wondering if anyone has broken their stock after sustaining a fall, such as off of the bench, or out of a saddle-scabbard?  Could it withstand a butt-stroke if one had to do so in a CQB situation?
Rest in Peace, Mr. President.

Victor,
It doesn't appear to be a problem in that the stock is actually held by the upper tang and the lower receiver straps.  Both of those are against solid wood.  The tang screw just keeps the stock from slipping off backwards and tightens the staps against the wood.
Best,
