209x50 - 44 or 45 Sabots?
« on: March 16, 2004, 03:41:57 AM »
I have a brand new 209x50 barrel for my encore.  I cast bullets and will be casting pistol bullets to use in sabots in this barrel.  Has anyone found .50 cal sabots for .44 bullets to be more accurate/better than the ones for .45 cal bullets?  I know individual rifles will vary but I am trying to buy the best mould on the first try....  Any advice or experience would be appreciated!

The most accurate loads in my Encore have been with .40 caliber bullets.

I don't recall seeing .50 cal sabots for .40 cal bullets.  Where would I find these sabots and what type/weight bullets were you using?

I went to their website but only saw .50 cal sabots for .429 and .451 bullets, nothing for .40 cal.  The blue sabot was for a .357 bullet in a .45 cal rifle. Did I miss it?

My Encore will shoot either with the same accuracy, maybe even a little more accurate with the 44's.  A friend of mines Encore will keyhole with 44's and shoot great with 45's.  No way to be sure without testing.

If you want I can hook you up with some 50 cal sabots for 451-452 bullets if you would like  to do a little testing.

I just received my orange sabots for .458 yesterday. Can't wait for a day-off and dry weather to fire them with my .458 Rem 405 gr SP. These bullets are awesome in my Encore 15" atop a 45-70 Gov't. Randy, what bullet make you use in the .40 cal and blue sabot?

I'm a 220 gr. DC fan-- but you can use the 200 gr. SST's.
