New Stock!
« on: March 16, 2004, 02:42:35 PM »
I was looking for a new thumbhole stock for my Contender and came across this place (gun stock INC).  Has anyone ever order from him.  The prices seem ok for unfinished.  Need input before I order.
Thanks,

I highly recommend them.  I ordered a buttstock and forend a few months ago for my Contender.  It was unique in that the stock was sized and shaped like an Encore but inletted for a Contender at a very reasonable price.

I bought the standard grade of Walnut and it was a nice piece of wood.  The buttstock was inletted perfect and I did not have to do any fitting.  The forend just needed the barrel channel opened up.  Finishing required light sanding with 100, 150 and 220 grit sandpaper and the finish of your choice.  You will have to cut the stock off, they send them with a 16" LOP so you can cut them to your specs.  They would probably cut it to what you want if you gave them a LOP.  There service was also very quick.

Mine was great.  Finished up real nice.

What I learned:
1.  Call TC right when you order and get the two forend screws and the washers.  This way you will already have them when working on the stock.  TC sent them to me for free.

2.  Save a bunch of money by ordering a butt pad from them.  It will be cut to fit the stock.  I didn't order one and it ended up costing me another $25 at a local shop to have one fitted to the gun.

Hope you enjoy yours as much as mine.

Thanks Everyone,
I am building a Contender carbine laminate (brown/brown) thumbhole stock.  The barrel is a 16 1/4 inch 22LR match bull.  Traded with Ed's Contender.  I can't wait to see how it shoots.
