Red dot question
« on: March 17, 2004, 05:53:55 AM »
When I look at my red dot scope when it is on the lens facing the game has a red shine to it.  Will this red shine scare a turkey?

Thanks for the help.

Electronic sights are illegal for hunting in Florida, but even if I could use one, I would be very careful about having anything red close to me in the turkey woods, especially on public land. Someone might mistake that red lens for a turkey's head.

Is that red shine bright enough to be seen 10 feet away?  My red dot site doesn't have a red shine to it so I have nothing to compare to.  If that shine is not too bright I would not worry about it.  Is it an actual red glow or just a red shine created by the sun hitting the site?

a lot of times red dots will come with a filter that you can put over the front lens. It does make the scope darker but it will iliminate your problem.

i have a simmons red dot on a pistol.  it has a red coating on the lens.  it shouldn't be any problem.  i don't think that the red coating on the lens can be seen past 15yds.
