1917 Enfield Action Value
« on: March 17, 2004, 09:20:49 AM »
A buddy of mine wants to buy a 1917 Enfield action I have and I don't know what it's worth, I don't want to shaft him but not give it away either. It has had the ears ground to match the front ring, bolt handle modified for a scope and switched to cock on closing. The bolt face has not been modified. Also includes a London Guns magnum drop magazine, unpolished, to hold five .375 H&H rounds. What should I ask for it.  Thanks.

Your M1917 action is worth whatever it is to someone that wants and needs it enough to pay.

Ten years ago good/vg condition M1914 Eddystone deactivated RIFLES sold for US$30.  Try to find one today!

That M1917 action with the hard work already done (ears ground off, cock-on-closing, bent bolt, and nice magazine box) should be worth between $100 and more than $300.  I would lean toward the high end for someone that absolutely wants and needs a magnum-length action!  Compare that price to a new magnum Mauser action!

Excuse me?  Model 1917's were made to "cock on closing".  A "cock on opening would be a modification (improvement, to many people).

Yes, Shorty, you are correct.

The factory Enfield M1917 is indeed "cock on closing".
