.243 WSSM or .350 Remington Magnum or maybe some other short or super short magnums.  I already sent them an emaiol though and they said they have no plans for any short magnums.

I own two .350 Rem Mags, and two .35 Whelens.  They shoot the same bullet.  The .350s have a lot more recoil, and a little less performance than the Whelen.  Plus Remington quite making the cartridge about ten years ago, Brass got real hard to find.  Now Remington is remaking the .350 again in their 660 series, but I have not seen any ammo on the store shelves here.  I've been making .350 brass out of 7MM Mag just to be able to shoot my guns.  While I do like the .350s in a tree stand, where the short rifle is handy, I prefer the .35 Whelen overall.  I have a Remington 600 in .350 that is a great stand gun.  It's just that the recoil is worse than my .338 Mags.

Sourdough, don't mean to be a pest about it but do you have any favorite .35 Whelen loads? And, who need the short Magnums, especially in a single shot? Just a marketing ploy anyway....<><....

I would love any of the mauser rounds, especially 7.92.  Better tham a 30-06 if loaded right, and dirt cheap practice ammo.

I would also like to see a 10mm auto barrel.  It would make a great companion to my Glock 20.

I would buy one with two barrels.

I wish I had bought 2 .357 mag barrels when I got mine.

Mag41vance, you still have a chance but probably the last chance to get another .357 Mag barrel. I have a receiver at H&R now getting a .357 Barrel fitted to it. I hear they still have a few left. Call CS, better still, send an e-mail to check (different info from calls or e-mails, who knows why???) Good Luck!! Hurry if you want another....<><....

MSP Ret :  Don't have a pet load for the Whelens yet.  Haven't worked up a load for them yet.  I use Remington Factory loads so far.  250gr CoreLocked.  I have some 225 and 250gr Nosler's that I am planning on using to work up loads, just haven't got aroung to it yet.  Probably won't get around to it until mid summer, life is just getting too busy.

.....all of these are interesting chamberings for the handi rifle.
its doubtful Marlin will listen, as their main market is the wal mart/gander mtn/ dicks sports crowd, who are just more than happy to get a decent priced center fire rifle.
==============================================
now maybe if marlin made a combo for these guns....
maybe a deer hunters package...270 Win & 12 gauge rifled barrel with a scope already bore sighted.
thats an idea.

MSP Ret.......Since sourdough has not responded for a few days, I thought I may throw my $.02 in, FWIW.
My favorite powder for the Whelen is IMR3031.  Often times a cartridge is best defined by a particular bullet weight, and I feel this is caertainly true with the 35 Whelen. My favorite bullet for the Whelen is a 250gr RN from Hornady at 2590fps. There is nothing sterling about the ballistics of this bullet on paper, but it's performance speaks for it's self.
Speer 250gr Grand Slams over IMR 4320 at 2550fps, is also a load worth mentioning, albeit both of these rounds are fired in a very strong bolt rifle, at the upper limits of the powder scale.

I have also found, using both IMR 4320, and 3031, that accuracy (in my rifle) remained consistent while I was experimenting with these powders using the same bullet, but different powder weights.

As with any other thing in reloading, I would start low with these powders and work up until I found something I was comfortable with.   If you are not going to be hunting anything larger than deer, you want to look at the 225gr, or possibly even the 200gr. I think when you mount that Whelen barrel on the Handi you may want to consider the lighter bullets.....just a guess on my part.     But, To shoot a true 35Whelen, one must think in terms of the 250gr, or heavier bullets.
I shoot a cast 35809 Lyman, 280grGG,GC, at 2040fps, and I feel confident there is nothing in the woods of the Northwest this load would not handle.
Cases are easy to make if you don't have any with the 35Whelen headstamp. With readily available 30-06 cases, a pass through the die is about all required for the first shooting with lighter loads / lighter bullets to fire form the case. After you have a 100, or so, formed cases you are on your own. The thought that a .35 Whelen is a "short range" cartridge, needs a bit of re-thinking. Once you have this round loaded and performing to your expectations, compare it's "paper ballistic's" to about anything you want to, and you will see what I'm talking about. If there is any difference in my Whelen, and my .338 win mag, I am not astute enough to see it. I do my best to avoid any shot over 250 yds, and the actual difference in trajectory, of perhaps 2", at that range is insignficiant in my way of thinking. I can't "hold" that well anyway.
And, you can do all this with much less "fuss" than any of the magnums.
Just my thoughts on this wonderful round. Sorry I got so long winded.

Boy you guys have put together quite the list.  But, you forgot my all time favorite bear cartridge, 358 Winchester. I would love to see NEF chamber a rifle for that.  Or better yet, EAA now has a sxs double rifle.  Would sure like to see that in 358. What a bear gun that would make.

Thanks all, especially RussB, don't worry about being longwinded, more info and thats great...I shot my new/old/used/lucky to get/ .280 Remington barrel today, Thanks lik2hunt!!!,  19 inches long, LOOOUD and it looks to be a keeper, have to shoot it again with a better sight. Have not been able to get any .35 Whelen ammo or reloading components/dies yet, still working on that. The Montanan has graciuosly offered to send me some and is sending me the ammo he had left after I was the lucky buyer of his .35 Whelen barrel,  along with some brass, happy days!!! while I wait for it to get here I'll work on getting some dies, life is good, God is Great....<><....

I have heard many times that you've really never lived until you shoot a rifle across the rail of a pickup truck bed. Years ago my dear old dad did this very same thing, and I thought the truck had blew up, or something even worse.
I learned enough from that to last a lifetime,  although I wasn't the one shooting, I sure got the blast from it.
At our Rifle Range, the Firing Line is covered, with two benches out in the open, and I always take one of the benches that's uncovered, and I nearly always think of my dad when someone is shooting something big under that tin roof. That 19" .280 has got to be something else.

Tcallbuilder, They have the .17 Mach2 coming out soon. I have spoken to someone who has seen it and the target it shot.  He told me it shot 100 rounds into 1 inch at 50 yards from a rest!!! Due to be out in a couple of months, unknown how long for the barrel accessory program....<><....

Well I'm a newbie here but have been fooling with the H&R/NEF's since 1982.  Chamberings I'd like to see would be:

  357 Mag.
 357 Max
  405 WCF
  41 Mag
  444 Marlin

I'd also like to see these and other calibres offered with a nicely tapered barrel, similar to their ultra light ones, but a full 26-28" long.  The pistol calibres in a nicely contoured light weight 18" long or so.    There is no need for a pistol calibred carbine to weigh what the NEF's do, and it saves me some lathe time by not having to turn the barrels down myself.

Maybe we could also get them to put on a decent front sight, maybe even a band type similar to Rugers on the No. 1.  While we're reaching, a steel trigger guard and internal frame to support the pins with.  A steel forend iron, and a quick release fore-arm, even if it's just an interrupted thread type.  Would make it much handier to swap out barrels.

Heck, let's go for broke and ask for a light contoured, 24" barrel, 308 WCF, with a factory installed (or at least drilled and tapped for the T/C contender base) scout mount in the right location, with the synthetic youth stock to get rid of the unnecessary LOP of the factory stock.  With a QD buttplate for a storage area and the other niceties as outlined above.  Make it a lot quicker than when I have to do the above for myself.  Maybe even with a swivel in the receiver just ahead of the guard for the third stud to work with a Ching Sling.

Someone said this is a wish list right?
