6.8 x 43 SPC/aka 6.8 Rem SPC?
« on: March 19, 2004, 10:23:42 AM »
So far, I would classify this as a Wildcat as it truely is.  I would like to see an active conversation started for this new cartridge, firearms that it can be chambered for etc.  This looks like the hottest thing to come along since white bread.

As it is a new cartridge, loaded by a major mfgr. Regardless of bullet style. How can you truely classify it as a wildcat?

necked down to .278 and chopped off.  Dosen't that qualify it as a wildcat?   Sounds pretty wild to ME.  I want one.

Since Remington done the developement work and introduced it as the 6.8 Remington SPC,it does not fit the definition of a "Wildcat" cartridge.
The .270Win.,the .444Marlin were factory designed and developed from the 30-06 case, the 10mm auto was a shortened .30 Rem. case yet none would consider them to be wildcats.

Remington has a gov't contract to produce 10 million 6.8 Rem.Spc cartridges in 2004.They are offering 2 different civilian loads in 2004.

Barrett is produceing AR 15 uppers in 6.8 Rem.SPC at this time.

As a sporting cartridge in an AR-15,it will probably be a success, for other types of firearms there are a lot of better .277 caliber wildcats. If cheap surplus ammo becomes availible that might change the picture.

But it still commerically available, taking it out of the wildcat arena. By the standard you suggest, a very large portion of of our sporting cartridges are wildcats.

Cool on the brass, so can we talk about this thing here?

That was my main intention...getting the ball rolling about this new cartridge...OK, maybe it would not totally classify as a wildcat, but where else should this cartridge be discussed?

Why not talk about changin' the caliber?  Maybe a 6mm or 6.5SPC?  :)

Picture below is all the different calibers tested.  Some did pretty good, but for Military purposes, the 6.8 (.277) was the best performer!
