Ruger SBH Sights

I have a 7.5" SBH that shoots high by 4" at 25 yds using 240 grainers either factory or my handloads . The rear sight is bottomed out , I called Ruger about this and they said they had only one size taller front blade they could send me . Might have worked but it is the same height I already have , what now ? Should I shorten my rear blade or is there some slick aftermarket blade I could install ? I don't shoot with a 6 o'clock hold as recommended in Rugers booklet , have always shot with the post just under where I want it to hit at close range . Am I missing something ? Is there a real advantage to using the 6 o'clock hold other than it would make MY gun hit closer to center ? Would be tough to retrain but could if for some real advantage .

Thanks , Dan

That's an odd situation. I've never shot a Super Blackhawk that was that off in the sights. Have you taked to Ruger about having them take a look at it?

Also, have you had other people shoot this gun to be sure it shoots high for them too?

Before I would cut off the top of my rear sight I would check under the sight to see if I could relieve it to let the sight go down some more or look to having a custom front sight made.

Good luck!

I had the same problem with a Super Redhawk.  Ruger sent me a couple of sights and it was still not enough.  I finally put a set of fire sights on it and they allowed enough adjustment.  I would just look for an aftermarket sight that would cure your problem.

Prof. F,

Don't really want to send it back to Ruger as they will put the trigger/action back to stock . Just got a action/trigger job done that I am very happy with !
