Maxi load tests

First load with the 180gr XTP's
Second load with 150 gr RCBS cast

It was very windy here in VA. I hope to test them both again. The Xtp looks like hunting potential for sure.

You might try the 158 gr. XTP's , they are the most accurate in my 357 herret. The Herret use's 28 gr. of H 4227 for a accurcey load and 30 gr. for hunting. They clock about 2350  for the hunting, 2250 for the accuracy load. That out of a 14" Contender. When I shoot alot it can print .75" at 100 yds. with a 2X scope.
Wish some one would try the Herret in a handi (I'm hinting Duce) Catch you later.   Digger

I think the 180 XTP is best for deer, I shot one with it at 25 yards this past season with my Max and it performed with exellence. I do not think the 258 would have stood up to breaking the onside  front leg and still completely penetrating the animal. It should however be nice for coyotes, groundhogs and such. Vance, I get groups that look like yours when using 26 grains of 1680, shooting at 75 yards. It will often put 5 rounds into a cluster like those 3 rounds. That looks like an interesting cast boolit load, any idea of the velocity??? Nice shooten

I'm hoping to take those rounds to DJ's sometime and get a chronograph
check. I plan on bumping it up to 20gr .5 grains at a time with that 180 xtp, and see if consistency will happen.

I have tried some 125 sierra spitzers, and 150 gr bulk FMJ spitzers. The 125's with 33.3 grns 4064, are working but  not very well, 1-1/4" at 50.
The 150 fmj put 5 rounds into a 1" cluster. I loaded the 150 with 34.4c  grns of IMR 4064, which was hotter than every books recomends  except a TC load data that gave the recipe for IMR 4064.
Currently, IMR 4064 is the only rifle powder I have to test. I'll keep testing as the powder fairy grants me more of a supply.
The wind could have been affecting the 125's I'll try to wait for a calm day.

Yesterday, I tested 19.3 grains of H4227

Yesterday, I tested 19.3 grains of H4227 with the bullet seated at the second cannelure.
Very good groups! One 4 shot group at .65 ", and two other shots at .5" .
The overall group 6 shots = 1.68" at 50 yards. This round is showing some promise.
I'm not sure about increasing the charge anymore because the Hornaday data states that the max FPS for the 180 XPT is 1434. And based on load data 19.3 gives that from a 14" Contender, so I'm sure I'm pushing it around 1600 with the 22 inch barrel NEF.
