Does anybody have any of the GNR wildcat barrels for the contender?  I'm interested in the 41 GNR % 41 GNR #2.  Do these cartridges carry extreme pressures?  Had a 7mm Super Bower, and didn't like it, so I've since stayed away from most wildcats, but I really like the 41s.  Any info on these would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Hello there, I have a GNR contender barrel in 338GNR caliber based on the 405 winchester case. I have to say that it has a lot of thump to it. This barrel is just under 14 inches total length with a muzzlebrake. I have loaded 200 grain nosler ballistic tips and 230 grain failsafe moly bullets. I have them down loaded somewhat at around 2000 fps. The recoil is not bad, it is somewhat less that my 309jdj without brake. The 309jdj with 180 grain ballistic silvertips moly coat has alot more recoil. This GNR really is not my cup of tea as it is a lot more caliber then will ever use around my neck of the woods. But for someone that wants some thump it has some.

Hello MKEE,

I have a 13" SS 41 GNR #2 with a Reeder brake that is one of the most accurate barrels I own, despite the fact that the 170 Sierras aren't known for their high ballistic coefficients.  Below is a target like many I routinely shoot with this barrel - not because I'm a good shot (that's evident because as you can see - I can't hit the dime), but because the barrel is a very high quality piece.  Please note that I INDEX religiously during reloading and preach INDEXING to every one who will listen. . .you may want to take that to heart also.  I didn't get the groups down this small without INDEXING.  This gun also has a Marine-Tex'd hangar bar in a VV laminated forend which I believe also does wonders for accuracy.  I used to have a fairly lengthy primer on forend bedding here on GBO, but I don't know if it stayed around when GB changed his servers around.  If you're interested, I might be able to find it again, just PM me.

The load I am using is nowhere near the maximum for this cartridge, but this one moves the 170 Sierras out at 2,350 fps.  I've shot the .41 GNR #2 enough to know that within 150-200 yards, the cartridge is devastating on animals up to elk size.  If I used hotter loads, I'm sure it would be even better, but the load I stay with does everything I ask of it in a spectacular manner.

Pressure?  It's safe in the Contender with Reeder's suggested loads - 'nuff said.  Would I recommend it?  In a New York second.  If you need more info, please PM me.

I have a braked 14 inch SS Contender in .41GRN#2. I got it when I was looking for something to take to the pig dances. My .41RemMag had given my pause to re-think dancing with them BIG pigs. Wanted something that would push 250g and larger bullets faster than a .41RemMag. BTY I also have Gary's .41GNR but it is in a RSBH. I love the .41GNR#2 Contender. It is a joy to shoot and scary accurate. I like to break charcoal briquettes out at 100yards just to impress the guys down at the firehouse. :grin:

I have a .30 GNR which was rechambered from a 30/30 about a month ago.

I'm very early in the load development, but so far, I'm very pleased with the workmanship and the turn-around was exactly as promised.

Own a 20"  7 GNR full custom carbine barrel. Most accurate, best fit and finish barrel I own. One hole clusters @ 100 yards. Barrel was delivered under 8 weeks. Plus a rechamber showed up two weeks to the day after I shipped the barrel. Both jobs far exceeded my expectations.
