Moving to California with T/Cs?
« on: March 22, 2004, 03:11:13 PM »
I may be moving to CA this summer due to employment, and was wondering if any current residents had some thoughts on the laws, etc.  I know I'll have to register what I have, but what about the fact that T/Cs aren't on "the list"?  Can I still bring them in when I move?  I assume I should buy what I want before I move, since getting them once there might be difficult.  Any advice would be great.

Patrick

P.S.  I'm currently in Massachusetts, so even CA laws are an improvement!

I live in CA and as far as I know it is no problem.  You already own them at the time that you move in, so I believe it is a grandfather clause kind of thing.  You can also contact the CA doj and ask them to be sure.  They actually helped me bring in my second contender and get around the sb15 law because my mother gifted it to me.  How cool is that!  Dan

They're fine.  Not being on the list means T/C won't pay the state's extortion and as a result you can't buy them new from a FFL.  That doesn't mean you can't own one or buy one used as a PPT.  Also, once you have them in CA, should you decide to sell them, Contenders and Encores command a significant premium in CA.  Now, I'm not telling you to stock up prior to your move or anything like that, just as an FYI.  ;)

It sure is a shame and pathetic that you have to sit and play cards with the Devil and then think that is cool.

I guess it will not be too long before the residents of that damned state will think that this is business as usual and why don't other states do it that way.   :x  :x  :x

Patrick,
Should you encounter any hang ups, just remember to have two barrels and one frame. Declare that both barrels are of the same sex, plan to get married and that they adopted the frame and plan to raise it alternatively. If all else fails, don't forget to mention that the barrels are atheist vegetarians. They'll let them in for sure then, maybe even throw a welcome parade.

The .410/.45 Cal pistol barrel is illegal in California.
