Looking for a TC or XP-100 in CA.
« on: March 23, 2004, 09:29:18 AM »
Hello guys and gals,

I'm looking for a TC or XP-100 to play. The caliber is not very important but I do need one that is in Calif. But I am thinking about 6 or 6.5 mm BR. Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you all.

Find the local silhouette range.  There is one up there somewhere within 2 hours drive.  Contact ihmsa to find the nearest range etc.  They should be able to help.  Dan

Hi Donna,
There are TC's & XP's out there.  Being in Ca doesn't help with all their restrictions on guns so finding one in Ca may be a bit of a challenge.  There is a IHMSA web site you might find interesting  The link is  http://www.ihmsa.org/

There is a match schedule there showing the clubs that shoot.  They are listed with contacts on the web page:

HAT CREEK R&P CLUB, BURNEY
SIERRA PISTOL CLUB, FRESNO
INLAND SILHOUETTE CLUB, REDLANDS
L A S C,  LOS ANGELES
OJAI VALLEY GUN CLUB,  OJAI

As for guns I personally like the 6.5mm.  I have a Rampro STP in 6.5BR as well as a 10" TC in 6.5TCU.  The 7mm are also very popular.  I also have a couple of xp's in 7BR and TC's 14" and 10" in 7TCU.  The 6mm work well for 1/2 scale.  They work for BigBore if you use the heavy bullets and rams are set proper.  May ring a few with the 6mm if the club has tough rams.  If I were to pick one caliber for unlimited it would be in 6.5BR.  The TC would probably be a little easier to come by than an XP but you cannot put a 6.5BR in a Contender.  I am also a bullet swager in which I swage for 22, 6.5mm & 7mm.  Got into it when I bought the Rampro in 6.5BR.  It has a break and tight neck chamber which means jacketed bullets are a must so for this gun I had to forgo the cast bullets and start using jacketed.  Hope this helps.

Donna--  What did you get?  Mid grip or rear grip, and what caliber?

Hello aggshooter, :D

I purchased it without seeing it. Yes, I’m taking a chance and no I don’t want to buy a bridge. I just wanted it for the action, it is a 0.473 bolt face and I plan to put a Krieger barrel on it and chamber it for 6.5-250 A.I. with an 8.5 twist rate. The 6.5-250 A.I. is a 22-250 A.I. that is necked up to 6.5 mm. I’m also going to get my own mid grip stock regardless of what comes with it.

6.5-250AI sounds like a neat little round.  I just have a few comments and questions.

1.  If you are planning on using it with bullets in the 140gr range I would opt for the 1 in 8 twist barrel.  I have a Rampro STP in 6.5BR with a Krieger barrel.  It is 1 in 8 and  I shoot my own swaged 142gr BTHP.  I think the 1 in 8 is the way to go.

2.  What type of velocities are you looking to get out of this round?

3.  Is this going to be strictly a silhouette pistol for 200M competition?  If so the 6.5-250 is going to product way more velocity than you need.  I believe this would be the equivalent round to the 6.5mmIHMSA.  Downloading produces low load densities and you still burn more powder than the BR.  The 6.5BR is capable of more than enough velocity for 200m rams for that matter even 500m rams.  I am getting 2200fps out of mine using 142gr bullets.  If you want a little more velocity without burning a lot more powder you might look into the 6.5mmTKS.

No matter what you get you will have fun.

Hope this helps
Bret
