Don't fall
« on: April 01, 2023, 03:45:48 AM »
Most of us on this forum are to old to bounce anymore and I found out yesterday afternoon that I certainly am. I was out in my garage that I have turned into a shop and my foot slipped. Down I went. I was slowed on the way down by head butting a miter saw on the way to the floor so it wasn't just a splat but concrete seems to be harder than it used to be. I used a shop towel to stop my nose bleed and went in the house to access the damage. I had a little scratch on my nose and a red moustache. After I got the blood washed out of my whiskers I discovered I had knocked two chunks of hide off my left hand and it was bleeding on the vanity top so I has some more mess to clean up. Then I looked in the mirrow again and found I had to rewash my whiskers. This morning I have a huge purple bruise on the back of my hand and am stiff and sore all over except for my knees. I have no idea how they escaped being bunged up with the rest of me but am glad something on my body isn't hurting.  ;D

I think over the years gravitational pull has increased, and the soil has become denser, as has the concrete.

I resemble all those remarks! I walk with a cane most day's because of a bad leg, but mostly because I have zero balance anymore. I went to see my pulmonologist yesterday, and when he asked me how I was doing, I lied and said great! If I had taken time to tell him of all my pains and such, I would have been there for hours.    Corners are sharper, concrete harder, rugs are getting so thick, they can be tripped over and sometimes the scenery seems to swim a bit !  Just have to bear with it...  ;) :D

“broke my hand in 4 places“

Damn brother, that sounds painful. I know it’s hard suddenly having to do things with one hand. Been there. I hate having to ask for help too, makes it even harder. Hope that heals quick.

more pain then my recent back fusion by a good amount. it tore muscles and destroyed nerves. doc said theres a good chance my middle finger will never have feeling again and that because of my age and the damage done about the best outlook is getting my strength back to 50 percent. he had to use cadaver bones in two places. he said where i screwed up was i should have landed palm down and probably would have only broke my wrist. instead brilliant me made a fist and landed it and broke the finger bones between the wrist and knuckles

Wow, big time hurt. I am surprised you had time to make a fist. I didn't manage to do anything but run into a saw and hit the floor. Landed just like I started.

I'm lucky I guess
I haven't broken anything in
a long time. The bad part is that
when it's cold and dreary I get to
re-live all those breaks and the
accompanying pains
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

I've broken a few bones, but
mostly stuff I could deal with
except for the feet. Most every
toe on both feet. That's what
gets me the worst.
I've known a couple with major
booboos like vertebra and femurs
and skulls that needed a plate
and screws and such
I nearly lost an eye messing
with those stupid racecars.
I knew one technician that
did lose an eye in the pre
mandatory safety glasses days

Just have to be careful and
deliberate and leave stupid
in the closet at home

I broke 2 ribs and have been sleepin in my recliner for the last 3 weeks, but finally got back in the bed night before last.
I've about decided to start pennin bulls with a 4-wheeler instead of a horse, I turned 73 this week and the ground is a lot harder than it used to be.

There's a good many posts on the
net about having horse and saddle
mule wrecks
When I read about one, I always
remember when I was young and
a relative had a stable/pasture
nearby, and had a small mule I
could bareback around the pasture
and shoot cottontail wabbits with
a pellet gun while the mule plodded
along. There was a thorny tree (locust?)
right dead center that the mule would
head toward and rake me off it's
back when it got tired.
If that happened to me today, I'd
have to go to the ER probably
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Well, me and my horse were arguing with a 2500 bull over a gate, and whether he should go through it.

Been pretty lucky, haven't fallen in the last couple years, but when I did,(walking on my driveway and found a patch of ice, it was night), sure got up real slow. Had my left hip replaced about 15 years ago. Wanted to make sure a piece of that titanium wasn't sticking out. I'll be 68 in July, sure isn't getting any easier. My problem now is my hands. Went in last Thursday for carpal tunnel testing. I flunked, big time. Had burned my index finger on my left hand real bad. Picking up a piece of steel I had just got thru welding, didn't realize it was still hot. Didn't feel a thing, noticed it when the boil was just about to break full of pus hours later. Got my butt chewed out by my doctor the following week when she looked at it. Guess your not suppose to squirt hydrogen peroxide on a burn when it's healing. Burns off the new cells that are growing. Hopefully get that surgery done shortly. Be nice to actually feel the trigger when I'm squeezing one off at the 500yd line.
We keep trying peace, it usually doesn't work!!Remember(12/7/41)(9/11/01) gypsyman

Hey!  I resemble that statement !  Those old stresses and injuries coming back !  Depending upon the day, i may or may not use a cane.
Either way, with the arthritis, there is always pain.  It is uaually at a low level..but ever so often flares up to be very painful.

I still bounce fairly well but little aches and pains come out of nowhere, and by the Grace of God, usually no away for no reason.
But my sense of taste and smell seem to be leaving permanently, although suddenly one morning I can taste food for a bit then pffft, it is gone. :o

I broke my head once, or the building that fell on it did. I wound up with a blow out fracture under my left eye, three cracks in my orbital ridge, a skull fracture in back, and a left ear barely hanging on. I griped at my doctor enough that he let me out of the hospital after three days if I promised to go straight home and lay down except for bathroom visits for the next week.  After the happy juice they had been injecting into my rear every three hours wore off I was kind of wishing I had kept my mouth shut for a few more days. If the pain pills did anything I couldn't tell it. I spent six weeks basically doing nothing except for one trip to have my face glued back together. I was self employed and had no medical insurance as no one would sell me any. This turned into a rather expensive 6 week stay at home vacation that I didn't want and certainly did NOT enjoy.

This old injury never hurts as it severed the nerves. I can cut myself shaving on part of the left side and never know until I see blood in the mirror. It also caused me to switch from using goggles to a face shield when using a grinder after I found a wire from a brush sticking in my cheek. I never felt it.

No this started back 8 years or so; first thing I noticed, if I had ice cream within a very short time it just became sweet and creamy.
Then in 2016 it really hit as my ability to taste, i.e. if they I had three of the same thing, different brands, I could not tell them apart.
Soda pop and canned chilli were the last hold outs, and I can still taste them  for a brief period depending on day of the week, but one good thing, it gives one no reason to pig out if you cannot taste it.
It hit my Father when he was in his later years also. :(

My wife lost her sense of taste and smell (they are connected) a few years before she passed.  She said she could taste sweet and sour, but had to go by memory, for distinctive flavors.
