Teamnelson, do you use brenneke slugs? I’ve seen them to be some of the best bear medicine.

I'm not loaded with that right now, no; right now I'm loaded with 5+1 Remington 2 3/4" 1oz. But I'm loaded for a trouble bear in the yard, not hunting a grizz. First one goes in the dirt at their nose, that's after they get a squirt of spray, hopefully. Its early in the season so it doesn't take too much to run them off, so I thought about loading BB first, but there's no guarantees so slugs all the way. If needs be, I can put 5 more in tight group quick with the Remington load and a limbsaver pad; with a 3" brenneke I'm good for maybe 2 in the same time. Thanks to injury and entropy, I just don't do recoil like I used to.

Girsan MC312, have a cylinder choke in it right now. Been a bombproof gun for me in the blind, boat, field. Because its interchangeable with bennelli m2 parts I thought I'd get clever and put an extended mag tube on it; ruined the swing, so I took all that off. Only thing not stock on it now is the limbsaver.

What about the S&W ?
Still using the 125JHP ? What powder  ?

 . . . . . that 686 . . . . the 686 . . . . . .the 686. . .

Did you ever think about the 125gr SD load you
had settled on back a while back,  and the powder
and such  ?  Or is it something you want to keep
private  ?

I've been using the 125 grain semi jhp since 1976, but quit hand loading it about 25 years ago. Back then I think I was using AL7 powder, and the velocity was around 1600fps, I think. The stuff I was carrying until recently was Remington.

Oh ok-  thanks
I pretty much use 2400 for my
357's and 44's with the stouter
loads, and Unique for most everything
else. I'd have to look in my notebook,
but I'd bet it's probably close.
I always like to check with other folks
to see if I can do something better.
The exception is loading down something.
I have an acquaintance that wants to
load everything down. I figure why
have a magnum something if you're going
to load it like a 22. I have a Mark II for
22's and a Colt Agent for 38spl if I
feel the need for less fire out the end

The AL7 powder was an awesome velocity powder, and I carried that handload as a duty round for several years. Back in 76 I was in a high speed chase involving a Datsun 240Z. They couldn't outrun us so they tried to out drive us. When they hit an off ramp at a little over a 100mph my partner bumped the Datsun and caused him to hit the curbing and tear the left rear tire of the rim sending them into a wheat field.
There was only one way out and they made a run at us.
It was about 3am so to let'em know we weren't backing down, I sent a round into the car. That AL7 powder looked like a flame thrower in the dark, and they just killed the engine and stuck their hands out the windows.
Couple a 20 somethings had outran Dallas PD, McKinney PD, and Collin County S.O.
We on the other hand were in a 75 Galaxie police package with a 460 Ford Intercepter. We didn't get outrun much back then. Them was the good ole days.

HaHa
IIRC the DPD had Plymouth fury II , or volare's
or some odd something back around then
with 318 weak sisters that might have made
200 horsepower if you had it on the floor.
I worked at an automotive machine shop
back years ago, and we built a good many
engines for the C.O.D.
They had a lot of amc spirits for city cars
and a bunch of old very worn heavier trucks
with 361 ford and 366 chevy
Most of what they had couldn't have pulled
a small toyota out of a mud puddle

Yessir.  Alcan had some good powders
I never used much of those older things.
About the time I started reloading, much
of the old stuff was being phased out.
Unfortunately, there were a couple of
powders I'd meticulously worked up loads
with that were phased out as obsolete.
WW785 and WW680 being 2 that I can
think of off the top of my head
