Electronic door lock blues
« on: April 07, 2023, 03:00:19 AM »
I have used one for years. No key in your pocket, push a button when you leave and it locks, put in a code when you return and it unlocks, and that is it except for changing batteries now and then. Mine quit unlocking last week and a battery change and trouble shooting did nothing. OK, new lock time. Lowes and Home Depot had nothing in stock that I liked and I sure didn't like their prices so Amazon it is. Only one that matches the finish of my electronic deadbolt and other hardware and it's in their ware house, like new but packing will be damaged. Got it, installed it, and it won't accept a code despite over an hour of trying and then around a half hour of my son trying. No problem. Box it it up and return it for free. Install the old one and use it with a key again until I can find another. Go back to Amazon and no new ones so try ebay. They have only one and that is new-open box and it arrives in two days. Install it and every thing is good until I set a code. It's little motor runs on both lock and unlock but the bolt does nothing. Get a refund and replace the old lock and use the key-again. Go back to Amazon and they now have a brand new one in stock and it arrived in two days. I'll install it later today and keep my fingers crossed that it will work.

I found many, many locks on Amazon but simple they aren't. Use your finger print, use a code, use your phone, no need to lock as it locks each time you close the door all in one features that I have no need or want for and just complicated things so those were a nonstarter.

All of this just to keep from carrying keys.  ::)  ;D

Sounds like a whole a bunch of trouble when all you need is a key.

The only thing I do is use a key caddy to avoid wearing a hole in my pocket.

havent locked my house in 40 years other then when id be away for more then 3 or 4 days. garage is unlocked and the keys are in the ignition too if you need a vehicle. if someone wants in your house they will find a way and it will just cost you a door or window. we have a camp thats way out in the boondocks. dad always locked everything. in 5 years we had the door kicked in twice and windows broke twice. nothing of real value to a kid so nothing was stole. asked him why the hell he locked it and he couldnt give me a good answer. made a sign that said your welcome to come in and help yourself to any food. twice in the 20 some years since we got there and found kids sleeping that use it to party. told them they had to go and away they went. both times they didnt harm a thing other then one time they polished off a bottle of bourbon i left there

I use a key to get into everything. House, cars, out buildings, ect. I don't condemn anybody that likes the electronic stuff. But to me its just something else to go haywire.

As to locking my doors? If you get caught in my house, you broke in, and may, or may not survive. Especially if I'm home. Same with my cars, pickups, and out buildings. I despise a thief, and won't put up with it.

As far as carrying keys, several years ago, I took to puttin a small stainless carabiner on my belt, and thats where my keys go when I get out of my vehicle.

It's not just about my personal space. You say you don't lock your doors, and you've talked for years about all your loaded guns.
If someone walks into your house unobstructed, takes one of your guns, and commits a crime with it, your gonna have your own criminal court date.

When I leave my house, ALL MY GUNS except the ones I'm carrying are in a gun safe that's bolted to the floor.

not saying it couldnt happen but i havent locked them except for going out of town for an extended time in near 40 years.  everyone knows everyone and ive been told MANY times that this is the last house in the county anyone would break into even my neighbors leave there homes open keys in there vehicles. but then we dont have lowlifes, border crashers and criminals walking down the street either. as far as i know theres no law at least in mich that says i cant have loaded guns in my home. at least not yet. ive never heard of a gun owner going to jail because someone stole his gun and shot someone with it. 2nd amendment is still alive for the time being.

Not trying to start something but sounds pretty risky to me to have loaded weapons in your house, unlocked, and not at home.

I’m not trying to insult you. Just stating the way I and others see or have seen it. I’m not much on hugs. Bear hugs excluded of course. “Feelin kinda lost”, “nobody to echo”, drifting around aimlessly”, “trying to cause trouble”, “trying to insult Lloyd”. I think you are the one doing so here as I just stated my observation of your M.O.... Never said you were manipulating Lloyd BTW. Although I don’t put much past you. Never called you any names Recently of course, just stating what another member better then me said...

Well my remark about the storage of loaded weapons in an unlocked house sure fired up a response. I would publicly like to apologise to Ironglow for the blatant remarks about New York being a hell hole state. My apologies Sir, it was stupid and uncalled for. My anger for the indictments against Trump got the best of me. Again sorry. As for my comments about the loaded guns I stand by it. Anyone that keeps loaded weapons in an unlocked and empty place is just plain ignorant in my opinion and I stand by that even if I am only a Texan by choice and not birth. Especially someone with military training?

Well, like I said. This entire website is about "OPINIONS" and OPINIONS DIFFER.
I can, and have, argued with the best of'em, but I don't recall changing anybodies mind here. Myself and Lloyd have had our differences, and now we don't.
Hopefully, you and Lloyd will get there too. Hes been here many years, and he ain't gonna change.

I see sumthin I don't agree with  and I say so. Some folks accept it, some don't. Some agree, and some don't. I've had instances where I turned out wrong, and have said so. Some here never have, and never will.

The one thing for certain is, all this should not affect your personal life in any way.

As to the one who's "conspiracy theory" is that I have some kind of "magical power" to manipulate forum members to do my bidding?
That's a weak minded denial of the fact that those agreeing  with  me on the  issue, might actually agree with me.

I know where you got that idea, and I'm told hes gone for good, so understand,  that ill treat you,  the way you treat me. "Get your own personality", Walmart, Target, wherever. Now I'm "back  to ignoring you" till further notice.   ;)

I personally think this one was more a 5th or 6th grade level, cause I got college, and since your the one that was whinin about electronic locks, because your ineptitude with keys, much of the blame for this is on you.  ;)

All I can say in reply is that college didn't to much for your reading comprehension. I was not whining at all and at the end even put in a smilie to show it was all in fun. Inept with keys? Bet I can hang with you when using them any day. All I said was I didn't want to carry them and with this I am off to where adults play.

Good Grief charlie brown....You fellas must really be feeling your oats this fine Easter morning. Who would have thunked, we could start ww3 over a post about electric door locks? I hope you have your Easter baskets ready to put eggs in, and your Mommy's and Daddy's have hidden them well. Be nice , and don't fight over the biggest or prettiest one though.

I hope you have your Easter baskets ready to put eggs in, and your Mommy's and Daddy's have hidden them well. Be nice , and don't fight over the biggest or prettiest one though.

LOL! There is only so much to be said about a door. Or a "door lock". I mean, its a door lock. He wanted to tell us about it, but he didn't seem to want any advice, or suggestions, so we just expanded the topic to make it interesting. Then he complained about that, and basically called us 3rd graders, when we were clearly arguing at a 6th to 7th grade level.

We actually made a boring, mundane topic that only an old man would find interesting, and livened up an otherwise nursing home caliber topic.
