Texas Senate Passes Bill On Ten Commandments
« on: April 22, 2023, 02:26:38 AM »
The Texas State Senate just passed a bill to require the "TEN COMMANDMENTS" be put in every class room in Texas public schools. It will now go to the governors desk to be signed.
The bill also includes Bible studies and prayer.

Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho are about the only other 3 states I'd consider, with Wyoming on top.
I tried Colorado twice back in the 70s with Larimer County S.O. trying to get me to stay, but even back then, I couldn't handle their thought process.

Just saying, this will be shut down in the courts or will order that schools have posted religious material open to all religions and that would include Islam and satanism if that happens. Some things are not well thought through.

Sad that things have changed so
much in my relatively short lifetime.
When I was in school, in the lunchroom
they rang a big bell and everybody
got quiet for about a minute, then
the bell was rang again and activities
were resumed.
That was the prayer time.
Everybody was to remain quiet during
that short time. Nobody was forced
to pray, but everybody had to
stay quiet out of respect for those
that wanted to pray. None of the
students ever voiced an objection.
It was likely some outsider that
didn't even have children
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

This country is coming apart at the seams, and there's nuthin anybody can do about it. I'm startin to get tired of hearing about it, as its the same damn thing over and over every day.

The United Mess/States government has flung the southern border wide open, and left the border states out to dry, while the rest of the states whine about large city crime.

So be it. I'll stay here in Texas where I belong, and what ever happens, happens. But at least we're tryin.

  Guzzi; From what I understand, you claim to be a Christian in the Mennonite manner.. You also say you have been a long time school teacher.

  You should then, be aware of the following facts;

     We were a Christian nation, founded by Christians

     The Separatists (Pilgrims) were Christians..The Puritans of New England were Christians..as were the first colonists of Virginia.

  The Conquistadors who founded St Augustine, as well as the Cathoiic fathers who founded missions in our southwest were Christians

    The Pilgrims of Plymouth, while still living aboard the Mayflower..gathered to write the "Mayflower Compact"..long referred to as the
      "birth certificate of America"..    Which, among other things pledged to spread the Christian faith.

      As a nation, we have been practicing our Constitution,  by being completely tolerant of other faiths, starting in Rhode Island
      nearly 150 years before we became the United States.

  A Christian nation, with "liberty and justice for all".  You must admit, this seemed to work very well..until too many walked away
     from that premise.

  I would think that being forearmed with this knowledge, you would be four-square behind the concept.

   Look below..to see how the "Father of our Country"  viewed the question..

The founding fathers also made it clear that the government should govern and religion does it thing but don't mix the two. Private schools can post what they want and that is fine but public schools are a government function thus anything that shows favoritism toward one type of religion is a no no. Are students going to be required to attend Christian religious training? That would also be crossing the line. Can get messy quickly.

Ya know Guzzi, to be a school teacher as you claim, you surely are ignorant to the intent of the founding fathers, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.
The Constitution was written using Christian principles, and in regards to Christianity being involved in our daily government, it says the exact opposite of what you just said.
What a shame a school board would be so negligent, and  allow someone as anti American, anti Christian, and Constitutionally ignorant as you, to have access to their children.

I'm sure you'll have some sort of response, but I'll say in advance that, to argue with a fool, is foolish in itself,
So I'll just let it stand, as you have long since proven my assertion.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

“ All men have a natural and indefeasible right to worship Almighty God according to the dictates of their own consciences. No man shall be compelled to attend, erect or support any place of worship, or to maintain any ministry against his consent. No human authority ought, in any case whatever, to control or interfere with the rights of conscience in matters of religion, and no preference shall ever be given by law to any religious society or mode of worship. But it shall be the duty of the Legislature to pass such laws as may be necessary to protect equally every religious denomination in the peaceable enjoyment of its own mode of public worship.”

so are you a Christian first or a democrat? it has to be democratic because supporting abortion and homosexuality kind of makes you just a poser as a Christian.

For the Constitutionally ignorant:

Engel v. Vitale, 370 U.S. 421 (1962), was a landmark United States Supreme Court case in which the Court ruled that it is unconstitutional for state officials to compose an official school prayer and encourage its recitation in public schools, due to violation of the First Amendment.

3 of the 6 Judges who made the majority ruling were appointed by Republican presidents.

As usual, your liberal reading comprehension is inferior to what is actually written. Others on this  website will  argue  with  you. I have  easily  identified you  for  what  you  truly  are. And you are as stupid as your predecessor.

NOWHERE IN THE BILL IS THERE CRITERIA FOR CONSTRUCTION OF "AN OFFICIAL SCHOOL PRAYER".

Some pretty powerful quotes from our founders that indicate America was founded on Christian principles, and the Bible was a guide for the writing of our founding documents.

A few that really stand out, and proclaim what our nation was founded on. Even one from Ben Franklin who is the one that proposed that the Constitutional Convention of 1787 open its meeting with prayer.

No truth is more evident to my mind than that the Christian religion must be the basis of any government intended to secure the rights and privileges of a free people.
Noah Webster

We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Our constitution was made for a moral and religious people... it is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
John Quincy Adams

The only means of establishing and perpetuating our republican forms of government is the universal education of our youth in the principles of Christianity by means of the Bible.
Benjamin Rush

I have lived, Sir, a long time and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth -- that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings that "except the Lord build they labor in vain that build it." I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel

Maybe I should have referenced Abington School District v. Schempp, Lee v. Weisman, Murray v. Curlett, Lemon v. Kurtzman or Santa Fe Independent School District v. Doe

The Lemon test states that, in order to be constitutional under the Establishment Clause, any practice sponsored within state-run schools (or other public state-sponsored activities) must adhere to the following three criteria:

Have a secular purpose;
Must neither advance nor inhibit religion; and
Must not result in an excessive entanglement between government and religion.

Leftists hate the idea that our country was founded on Christian principles, and God's word "The Bible" was the foundation.  Because the bible doesn't entertain the idea that a nanny state steal money from from people and hand it out to those that the nanny state deems worthy.

IMO I look at it as a group of
outsiders sticking their noses
where they don't belong.
Just like the various rural towns
that have Nativity scenes on
the courthouse square every
Christmas.  None of the local
residents have ever complained
about them. It's nosy outsiders.
Some years back a group of
Sons of Confederate Veterans
had a period dress commemorative
ceremony for the United States
at the rural courthouse square, and
groups came from 200 miles away
to protest something that didn't even
affect them in any way
Too many thin skinned nosy pinheads
with nothing constructive to do.
Reminds me of the yuppie pinheads
around my area that won't do yardwork,
but pay expensive gym membership
fees to go "work out "
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Yep! The BLM, and ANTIFA, backed by northern liberals have been trying to take the Confederate memorials off the courthouse lawns where I grew for several years now. Heavily armed "good ole boys" always show up and offer assistance to local law enforcement, and local citizens show up to block their access to the memorials.

Some leave in good shape, some don't. .

I consider them all trolls.

Well, now that I have read it, nothing has changed. I did know what I was talking about.
 This set of ideas was posted on an open discussion forum. There was no note “only Texans need reply.” It is worth pointing out how easy it is to accept unconstitutional action when faith is involved.

  FRom Trumpy;

  "For the Constitutionally ignorant:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Evidently, the above was an exercise in futility, since very few Bible believing Christians would want any 'state official' to be composing any prayers.  That includes the teacher or anyone else.
  In any case, there is sincere doubt by many, of the efficacy of "canned prayers".  On the spot, prayers, direct from one's heart..seem
   to be most effective.
  So, switching back to avoid this thread from being transferred, keep in mind that all the petty disputes across the country, do not
  and cannot, replace the Constitution (Bill of Rights), which simply says the state should keep it's nose out of the church.
   So, has the rise of the left placed our country in such a sorry state of upheaval?  Supply lines are broken, the border doe not exist, our leadership in Washington seem to be selling our nation out to the CCP, drag shows for little children, can't tell a man from a woman...or likely a cat from a giraffe..and we can't find an honest election.
  No secret...the left despises our constitution..
     Just look at my signature line, quoted from John Adams...
    Our Constitution was made only for a moral and Religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
   (John Adams
