Long scope on short barrel

I'd like to temporarily mount a scope on a new 22 pistol to test different ammo.  I don't have a pistol scope, and the only one I don't currently have mounted is a 15x Weaver riflescope.  If I mount it with the objective out over the muzzle, will the blast damage the scope (if you can call it "blast" from a 22 long rifle)?

You might be surprised at the muzzle flash from a 22 pistol. Shoot it at night some time. Will it damage the scope? Maybe, maybe not. If you cherish the scope a lot I wouldn't use it. If its an old one you don't care too much about I might.   KN
