Bud Light Boycott Costs $18 Billion as Stock Plunges

Bud Light beer parent company Anheuser-Busch InBev's stock is continuing to drop, falling Wednesday to November 2022 levels, closing at $53.40, according to CNBC.

The latest fall is well off its 52-week high of $67.09 per share in March following backlash for promoting transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney in May.

According to Newsweek, the drop represents a 20% decline with the company stock losing over $18 billion in market cap over the same period.

The controversy started April 1 when Mulvaney, a biological male who made videos about transitioning into a female, posted a video on the social media platform Instagram showing a customized beer can sent to her by the company.

That video sparked a backlash and calls from conservatives to boycott the brand and included rocker Kid Rock shooting a case of the beer with a rifle.

Bud Light CEO Brendan Whitworth issued a statement on the controversy at the time but did not apologize for the move.

"We never intended to be part of a discussion that divides people. We are in the business of bringing people together over a beer," the statement said in part.

Anheuser-Busch InBev CEO Michel Doukeris told investors that the promotion just involved the one can, and that the company was planning to invest more in the brand amid the backlash, Newsweek reported.

"This was the result of one can. It was not made for production or sale to general public," Newsweek reported him saying. "It was one post, not a formal campaign or advertisement."

The New York Post reported Tuesday that the boycott is bringing the brand's nearest rival, Modelo Especial beer, to see a sales increase of 9.2% for the week ending May 20, as Bud Light sales declined 24.6% in the same week.

"While Bud Light loses week after week, Modelo Especial gains week after week; and now Modelo outsells Bud Light on a national basis across all trade channels combined," Bump Williams, who runs a consulting firm, told the Post. "If this continues, Modelo will surpass Bud Light for the year."

The report said that Bud Light was not the only brand from the company to see sales decline that week, with Budweiser dropping 11.25%, Michelob Ultra falling 6.5%, Busch Light dropping 5.2%, and Natural Light also declining 4.9%.

Other competitors including Coors Light, Miller Lite, and Pabst Blue Ribbon have seen sales increase by double digits since the controversy began; and Pottsville, Pennsylvania-based Yuengling beer has seen a sales increase by 47%, with 32% of that coming from four weeks in May, according to the Post.

Anheuser Busch has never gotten any of my money anyway, but given their obvious direction, hopefully, but not likely, they'll go broke.

I don't consume alcohol of any variety so they get none of my money.

When my best friend Billy Doss died back in early 2001 I bought a pack of his favorite, don't remember what that was at the time, and had one that night in his honor. The rest was used in the water pan when smoking or given to guests who drank the stuff.

I know once his favorite was regular Budweiser but in later years he changed to a light, can't recall if Bud Light or another one. It's just been too many years ago and beer just never has been anything of interest to me.

Actually this working boycott of Anheuser Busch is the best news that we have had since the counterfeit Biden regime has taken office.  To me it doesn't have anything to do with beer.

i wonder if this even hurts anheser bush. switch to a different beer and for the most part your still supporting them. they own half the brands in the coutry and miller and all there brands. then theres pabst molson blatz and a couple others that are owned by russians. so you either by something local and good luck finding a conservative brew put because most are yuppie run and your giving money to the enemy there too. i found one in down state mich thats suppose to be run by conservatives but would bet my house one it. had to chuckle yesterday. was watching a series on religon and they were trying to nail down where the garden of eden was. part of the show was about early man changing from a mainly hunter gatherer into mainly farmers. they were talking like 6000 years ago. they said the main reason it happened was to increase grain production to make beer noy bread. they said without the need for beer it might have not happened for a thousand or thousands of more years. apparently they like some beer at hunting camp then too ;)

Considering Alissa Heinerscheid, the Bid Light CEO, and Brian Cornwell, the Target CEO, both have business degree's from pretty high up college's,( Harvard for her, and U. Of Cal. for him), makes me wonder if they paid attention in class, or like Obama, spent to much time in the ''choom room''.

Garth Brooks has now joined the Bud Light supporters. Basically calling those supporting the boycott assholes.

Garth who?

I always did think he was kind of an (censored word). Never listened to any of his so called music. then I never listened to much of any country and western music.
