What can be found in an 'old log'..
« on: June 09, 2023, 02:24:35 AM »
Grandson is busy with his sawmill, so busy that his knife smithing has taken a back seat.  He searches out 'yard trees' that must be removed, and
takes his chances on foreign objects that may be buried in them.  It seems to have worked out well for him so far.

Here is a black walnut log he recently removed from somebody's yard.

Probably that will be where some of the planks go into.  I would like to see a blank using the dark section, along with a bit of the light section,
   made into a gun stock.

I only suggested that I would like to see some in a gunstock..  That thickness is probably more as Dee suggested, perhaps cut more with tabletops in mind.

Point of interest; here are some exotic woods, mostly burls..  This is a website specialized for those who work with and market exotic woods..
