Emergency Eye Surgery In Morning
« on: June 15, 2023, 01:02:58 PM »
Saturday I walked out of a basketball tournament and got in my pickup. Soot all over the windshield. Turned the wipers on, and it didn't move.

Then it dawned on me it was my right eye. No better Sunday,or Monday, and Tuesday an eye specialist said I needed a bigger and better specialist.

Today the bigger and better specialist ran dye into the eye and took a look. Eye is filling with blood. Told me to go home and don't do anything, they're going to try and repair the retna in the morning. Said if I didn't get it fixed there was a 70+% chance the eye would quit workin soon.

I guess we'll see what happens tomorrow.

Praying for a successful surgery and rapid healing...
It was about two years ago when I had a similar experience... it was as if a purple shade were drawn UP over the right eye, until about 90% of it was a deep purple blind..then it receded back down slowly.

I have had a couple incidents since that time, with the sooty or cloudy experience you had..only lasted moments, however.

  Still wondering...

My wife has something similar although not as bad. We had gone for a cheap set of extra glasses at one of those "eye exam and two pair for $60" places and she decided to get a pair also. The dr there called me in and said she had blood in her right eye. I immediately (3 minutes later) called our primary insurance and got her an appointment for the next day. They have been giving her shots in that eye for several years now to keep the pressure down. It has been expensive, but we believe it's worth it. We will be praying for you as you see the Dr.s.

Had black ‘spider webs’ in my left eye a few months back. Caused by vitreous body (gel) pulling away from the retina as it shrinks, from old age. Luckily it didn’t tear my retina…could have lost vision. Mine cleared up on its own.

Wishing the best with yours.

Dan it sounds like you had a stroke in that eye. IF so don't expect any miracles or quick recovery. Almost 2 years after I had a stoke in my left eye I am still getting a shot in the eye on a regular basis.

Yeah I do mean the eye doctor sticks a needle into the eye ball and injects medication. He did laser surgery on it some time back, a year or so now I guess, and that didn't fix it so back to the shots.

At first he was doing them every 4 weeks, it eventually was extended to 10 weeks. Now it's been about 16 weeks I guess since the last one. He said I'm not really getting better but not worse either and he seems happy with that. My next appointment to see him is June 22 and I don't know if I will get a shot or not.

BUT the up side is after the first shot my eye got a lot better and continued to do so slowly. I again have 20-20 vision in both eyes. But only the regular shots keep it that way.

I don't know of anything else that can cause what you say you have experienced overnight like that.

A stroke is basically just a blood clot that eventually finds a spot in an artery or vein too small for it to pass thru. When that happens the pressure begins to build and eventually the artery or vein ruptures. That's the black and what it sounds like your doctor is telling you is going on.

It is apparently far more common than any of us might have thought. In fact I had never heard of an eye stroke until I had one. At the office I use they are many patients that like me come in regularly for those shots.

Do you know what kind of surgery? Is it laser surgery? Is it an eye stroke like I had or something else?

Three tears in the retna. He says he fixed'em and the gas bubble he put in the eyeball will disapate in about 2 weeks. Gotta go back in the morning to get the bandage off.

Appreciate the prayers.

Well, a less than comfortable night. Only allowed to sleep on my right side, or sitting straight up. They said it was important as the gas bubble needs to be in a certain place for healing to work.

Heading back to Amarillo to get the giant patch off and see how I'm doin.

Eye surgeon says it's looking like it's supposed to. Linda says it looks scary. I can see light and some color and that's all. Doc says it'll be about 2 weeks before the vision starts coming back. Hope he's right, this one eyed thing sucks.

Prayers for no pain, eye healed, and sight restored when this is over.  Recovery seems agonizingly slow on this side of the anticipated calendar days ahead.

Well they say l have a good doctor, but my vision hasn't improved at all since surgery. Some color and light is all I can see.

The extra prayers sure can't hurt, and for sure are appreciated.
