In my opinion they were stupid for getting in that little death trap to look at a ship that sunk a hundred years ago. Especially when they have high quality pictures they can stare at as long as they want to.

It ain't little they were gonna see bodies floating around, or ghosts waving at'em.

  From Lonestar;

" A tragic but totally preventable ending.  The endless hubris of the CEO: his insistence on not hiring “50-year-old white guys” with experience, cost-controlled building and fitting-out, apparently little to no redundancy in systems, no third-party inspections, no certifications because he believed that most accidents are caused by human error and not mechanical failures, lack of lessons learned from the aerospace industry, yadayadayada were the direct causes of this loss of life.  And we ended up paying millions of dollars to fund the search and recovery operations.  I weep for the families of the victims here, at least the latter never knew what hit them."

This clowns statement that he didn't want to hire any " 50 year old WHITE men", explains a great deal about his character,
his self centered 'brilliance', and his overall intelligence.

  Anybody who bought a ticket, should have checked out the many reports on this misadventure.;

..And despite their wealth, the toll paying passengers should have "taken a clue"..when they signed life & death wavers.

Stockton Rush.. the man who bragged of "breaking the rules".  Yes, he's dead, but it wasn't necessary...

He even broke his own rules..not wanting any "50 year old White Men" on his team..himself being a 61 year old white man.

Man; that was a costly suck-up to the woke crowd !  https://www.cnn.com/2023/06/21/business/stockton-rush-titanic-submersible/index.html

It seems to be safer to travel into space than deep underwater.  Space is a vacuum, and all the spacecraft has to do is hold 14.7 psi atmospheric pressure inside.  Deep in the ocean with tons of water under pressure, the vessel has to be really strong like several tons of pressure per square inch.  Steel for a submarine would have held up better than carbon composite and brittle titanium, but a steel one would be much heavier and would require a bigger boat to carry it to its location and retrieve it.  The company didn't have enough money to buy a big boat or ship to do a heavy steel sub.  At least spacecraft are tested to explosion to find out the maximum pressure they can sustain on the ground or a test launch unmanned.  The only way to test a sub is to put it down in the ocean, then bring it up and test for possible failures.  Spacecraft are usually built under NASA specifications.  There is no specifications for small submarines in any country.

… I am semi curious about the "tapping " at 30 minute intervals as was reported.  Probably should be investigated.
Either somebody was negligent or not qualified for the job,  or the instrumentation was faulty or not up to the work it
was used for.…

Underwater noises are everywhere, they can travel thousands of miles and become distorted.  That “tapping” could have been anything, from a fishing boat crewman hammering on the hull to a whale.  Since the Titan’s hull was mostly plastic, a metallic sound from the submersible would not be expected.  And why would they have a hammer or wrench or anything heavy aboard?

For the conspiracy nuts - was the phony “search” operation with its dramatic coverage by all news outlets meant to distract the public from the Hunter fiasco playing out at the same time?  Somebody knows…

Yes but it was alluded to that survivors
of the vessel incident were tapping on
something at exact 30 minute intervals.
People who are involved in a SAR mission
of any kind are supposed to be very
experienced and top tier professionals.
An experienced sonar operator is able to
sort out "trash " signals from the desired
signatures.  Much as experienced fishermen
can look at their sonar unit and say " that's
a school of baitfish at 35 feet, and large
stripers below that "
Except the SAR is supposed to be vastly
superior and much better trained and able
to discern what exactly is what as far as
readouts.
Somebody was poorly trained, or not as
qualified as somebody else, and/or the
equipment used was crap. Probably
some of both since people today get jobs
that they should not when the most qualified
person should always get the job. Needs to
always be merit based regardless of what
it is.
I've also heard a report that the USN "heard"
the implosion as it happened and knew they
were toast the first day,  while loved ones were
still being fed the "tapping every 30 minutes "
story
Still,  I'm curious as to how the US taxpayers
get reimbursed for the million bucks the
USCG  used up searching for non existent
bodies and debris

Wonder what the total bill was
for the wasted infrastructure  ?
