Leatherman?
« on: July 28, 2023, 04:35:42 PM »
Anyone have any experience with Leatherman’s service department? I’ve got a small multi-tool with pliers that snapped right off the other day. It’s only about 2 years old and their site says they have a 25 year warranty. It’s been over a week now, I’ve sent two emails and haven’t heard a peep. Is this common?

Sorry- no experience with their C.S.

I've had a couple of the genuine Leatherman tools,
and a couple of the other manufacturers versions,
and various SAK's
Just me-  I  prefer a dedicated screwdriver and
dedicated pliers and dedicated hammers, etc.
I want knives for cutting and not for making
spears or trying to split wood and so on
All the mcgiver gadgets are viewed as strictly
last ditch emergency things to be used when
you don't have the proper tool to do the job with

IMO the Leatherman people caught the
McDonald's menu syndrome, and offer
way too many models and options, and
can't keep up with the customer demand,
just like thousands of other companies in
America today
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

If I have a problem with a product I call. I despise email communication and refuse to use them. If you send an email there isn't any incentive to even check for emails. Get'em on the phone and you'll find out what they're gonna do, or not do.

I send emails so I have a record and it's one they can see. And sure, dedicated tools are obviously better, but I can't very well carry pliers, a couple of screwdrivers, a file, etc...in my jeans or shorts pocket when out and about. As I said, it was a small one, pocket sized. Sometimes it came be handy.

No experience with repairs, but bought my first Leatherman after I saw a guy laying large waterline pry it into place with a Leatherman, on a job I was inspecting. I asked what brand it was and before I got home that evening I had one on my belt. I've bent the smallest flat blade screwdriver, but nothing else has ever failed. Good luck.

Agreed, I've got one I bought more than 10 years ago.

Don't know how I'd get through a day without my leatherman...

I agree, but more often than not it is my small pocket sized leatherman that gets used each day. The big one gets used often enough that I still carry it every day as well.

several years back there was quite a bit of discussion about the founder of  Leatherman being anti-gun.  Has there been a change in his beliefs?
