Fried Chicken
« on: August 12, 2023, 09:33:59 AM »
A few days ago, my Grand Daughter called and said she was at the grocery store and wondered if I needed her to pick up anything for me. I asked her to pick up a small package of chicken breasts. She did! She also picked up some other items for me, and I paid her without thinking anymore about it. Today my wife pulled the chicken out of the freezer. As it thawed out I noticed the weight and cost. Two pieces of breast that weighed......1.56 lbs. total. 12.56 for the package. 8.00 per lbs.

Time to start eating like the Chinese. A dab of meat for flavor and a bunch of veggies.
I feed wild turkeys in my yard  a little scratch very morning. When I look at them now, I see big breasts and drumsticks. Time to sharpen the knives and put some corn out.

Can't pay those insane prices
I always buy the 10 pound bag of
leg quarters for $5.00 + -
Leg/thigh is a lot better IMO than
dry stringy breast. If I have to have
breast meat, I'll buy the breaded
frozen chicken nuggets/strips
and be done with it.
Used to be economical to buy a
whole bird and cut it up yourself.
Not in a long time
Dang sure don't buy wings.
Most boney wastiest piece of a
chicken there is, and the most
expensive.  ( just because of the
trendy wing fad )

Yep.  Cheaper to buy a whole rotissirie chicken at Sam's than a whole raw chicken at the grocery.

I usually buy a "ribeye roll" for about $240.00. Usually weighs about 22 or 23 pounds. After I age it for about 35 days I unpacked it and cut it up getting about 25 steaks. They average almost but not quite 15 ounces each, and a little over $9.00 each.

They inject chicken with water adds about 20% weight
It does however end a lot of the dry breast syndrome but I dislike it
They want more and water weight is a cheat imho

How they do it is the install Turkey waterers what they do it squirt the water into
The birds when they go to take a drink, by doing this they end up getting more water
than they would by normal means
I believe is was done unintentionally but when they realized it,It became the new improved
Water Chicken
I really like a good cooked Chicken but not a water Chicken
Good Farm or personal raised is the best imho
and in the long term cheaper

You can no longer get 1 1/4 or 2 lb. Birds they are 3.5 and up

What store did she got to?
That is way, way, way above any thing up here.
At that, buying packaged meat in small amounts, Less costs More.

Last coupla turkeys I bought had the cavities
frozen full of ice . That's no accident.  That's to
bring the weight up and you pay for frozen water
instead of meat
As far as beef, in my area you're about as well
off buying hamburger meat instead of spending
the money for expensive cuts that are all bone
weight and injected water/marinade
